Best speaker only upgrade?

I have been looking through here and I'm interested in getting better sound but for cheap. I'm not interested in a sub or a new head unit. I have the entune touch screen that i enjoy using, its not JBL though. What speakers would you recommend I change? What should I change to?

 

That's kind of sad to hear . It just sounds so flat but I can't spend $500 on a new system. What would the minimum be?

 

ahhh yeah, I did see that but its more than I want to spend, even if I saved up for it I can't justify it.

 

Unfortunately "cheap" isn't usually part of the occasion, but that doesn't mean you have to spend thousands. Go to Crutchfield or your fav audio site so you can get some specs and find some mid-line speakers and you'll be okay without breaking the bank. Some searching of the audio section should give you plenty of advise.

Not going to 100% agree with this. I didn't have time to get my system installed all at once (ADS amp and MB Quart speakers I pulled from my last car, and a new Alpine H/U) and installed the speakers first and they sounded much better than stock. Had it like that for a few weeks before I had more time. Now it didn't sound as good as what they are capable of, and I wouldn't recommend the OP buy high end speakers to pair with the stock H/U, but basic mid level Alpine, Kenwood, Sony etc. whatever brand would still be and improvement.

if your going to amplify and just install from speakers id recommend the C62 or k62 mercury mids. Their priced right under promo and their performance is unreal!

There's plenty of other higher end options, but that is a basic one that will let you enjoy your speaker upgrade more and get you some more volume.

 

I put in Infinity Kappa 6x9's and the Kappa stand alone tweeter. The 6x9speaker is 94 - 95 db efficient. This allows you to keep the stock HU. Sounds very good.

 

The upstream source matters. If its the radio or MP3 files, that's one thing. If its CDs or a smartphone playing lossless files with a proper aux input to the head unit, that's different. You'll never know for sure what the other system limitations are otherwise.

 

Just poking around and saw this post. Damn, they still make these?! I had them in my 97 Grand Am running off of just a cheap Alpine HU and they sounded great. Glad they are still an option.
