Any of you guys have an ARB (or any other) awning? And most importantly, how much use to you get out of it? I am thinking of getting one, but pretty much every camping trip we did over the past couple of years where we stayed at camp grounds, I could not even pull the truck to where an awning would actually be useful.

Go to a local store and try on shes until you get it right. Then buy them there to support a local business :)

Depends on what kind of climbing you do. I tend to do longer climbs, and the 5.10 moccasyms are incredibly comfortable. Not the most technical, but I've had good luck with them.

We have a shelter from REI that we love - most of the family camping we have done an awning wouldn't be useful

It goes up easy with a couple people - same with tear down - stores in a bag the size of a 4 person tent nicely.

Not the best pic but the best I have at the moment

    Edit:
This is not my tear drop, it's my parents'. This was at a church fathers and sons Campout so it was my dad and I and my b-I-l. Dad slept in the teardrop, bil slept in a hammock under the blue tarp, I slept in the bed of the Taco.

Asolo are nice Lowas are good too. I have had two pair of asolo fugitive hikers and they kick ass! Comfy as hell. The only issue is when you wear them on pavement, the soles wear quickly. I guess they were meant for more hiking as less mall crawling.
If these were rock climbing shoes then ignore all the above.

I'd rather pick one up locally since they're $9 on Amazon. No REIs near me, but we do have a high end outdoor shop downtown I haven't checked yet. Probably $9 there too...

Their Anasazi seems to pop up a lot as a good grippy and comfortable shoe. I'm going to a 5.10 outlet next week to check a few out. My buddy loves his moccasyms but is also looking for a more technical shoe ha.

The Mythos is tempting for the comfort but performance seems to be compromised more than some other models for it. We will see. I'm hitting up REI and that 5.10 outlet next week and I'll let you know what I decide on.

100% agreed about buying local. But I sure do like to take advantage of free return shipping to try all kinds of stuff on haha. I've probably returned 9/10 items I've bought online just to try gear out for myself

I use to Boulder and for shoes I went with evolv. The factory is not to far from me so I go there and buy blemishes for like $30 a pair.

I climb with the Anasazis and love them. I've had them for around 3 years now. Rubber is still in pretty good shape and they are super comfortable.

Have plans on heading up to Bishop this Thursday to sunday to backpack the Lake Sabrina trail to Blue Lake and Baboon Lake. Weather shows slight chance of rain on Friday in bishop and 60% for Saturday. debating if I should still go or not. and If I do go, any advice? have never really backpacked in the rain before. planning to call the ranger station to ask about thunder storms later.

I say you skip it and wait for better weather. Especially if you're inexperienced??? Just my .02 of course.

Hiked the Virginia Triple Crown this past weekend with a few other TW members. 3 days for 37 rough miles with most on the AT. This is the sunrise from Dragon's Tooth yesterday morning since the first day with views we were up in the clouds.

I would prob put my experience level towards beginner. Been backpacking a few times and have done Blue Lake before so I am familiar with the trail. But have not camped in rain before. I have a nice marmot minimalist jacket that has yet to be tested.

Doubt there will be t-storms down there this time of year but if there is lightening don't stay exposed and head for a lower, protected elevation.

And I carry a big garbage bag as a ghetto backpack cover.
