she doesn't want to go above $100.00 a month. So she is extremely limited with her choices. With that budget, its going to be something older with miles. Right now, she has no car payment, but her jeep is nickeling and dimeing her. I don't want her to get into another vehicle which she has a payment on, AND is breaking on her ontop of that. If the deal just isn't there, shes better off keeping the jeep and just keep fixing it with the money she'd otherwise be shelling out for a monthly payment.

I understand the JEEP thing....My mother-in-law's Grand Cherokee was MORE THAN nickeling and dimming her to death.

What's more important?? HER HEALTH or the budget?? Is the budget more important than her dislocating her hip (or breaking her hip) because she has trouble getting in & out of a vehicle??

Just sayin..... SHOP for her health (future & longevity). YOU CAN adjust the budget and take time / patience to find the right vehicle. AGAIN - let her SIT in each vehicle, DRIVE each vehicle, and let her make the decision.

@skiergd011013 My mom is in her mid-60s and has RA pretty bad. She is on her 3 Rav and loves it. She is in New England too.
Another person posted up about a Camry with good tires, I agree. My wife had a little civic with hakka tires and the thing was a freakin tank!
I think the truck may be a bit squirrely on the road for her in the winter. That's just my .02 though.

I totally agree with this comment......

Front wheel drive or All Wheel drive.

She probably doesn't need the 'logistics' of driving 4WD. And I mean... She won't want to be bothered with knowing when or how to engage it. Knowing NOT to make tight turns and remembering to disengage and not drive it on pavement. She should just be able to GET in and drive it without the extra 'thinking' involved.

Granted, my mother-in-law doesn't go out in the rain or snow at all. However - she needs something that she CAN drive in the snow if she ever needed to get out in an emergency.

There was a year that they made a V6 Rav. Thing had power. They stopped making it due to power overload, I am sure.

I bought my mom who is a little older than your grandma a Pontiac Vibe which is really a Toyota Matrix. Everything in the car/SUV is Toyota except used they sell under price than toyota badged matrix's. It 4 door hatchback, flat fold seats, you can fit a couch in it, has a roof rack. Its a sporty wagon. Good line of sight no blind spots easy in and out not low like a civic or high like my truck. She loves it at 81 yr old drives in all 4 VT seasons. Its bigger than I thought & gets good mileage low maint.
