Nothing because even if they do introduce a US compatible diesel the premium will be in the 20% range for something that'll only get marginally better economy and cost a fortune to fix 60 months down the road when the warranty is up and something in the fuel or emissions system takes a dump and costs you $5k+ to fix.

I agree with the emissions issues, but not the fuel economy. In general, the MPG ratings for gas engines are overestimated, and diesels are underestimated, sometimes grossly,by comparison. I'll be very interested to see the highway MPG in the diesel Colorado.

About the only way that'll happen is if they pull a VW. I'm sure the reason why VW's get better mileage in the real world is the emissions cheating software must have been active when they were testing for fuel economy.

Lots of consistent highway reports on the eco diesel Ram in the 32 range, rated at 27 or 28.

Toyota will charge $3000 just for the treatment. Then, it will only appear in the premium models as it does in other vehicles. So you are looking at $43000 for an economy car. Get real. For that price you can get two vehicles....basic Tacoma and a Corrolla that gets better mileage...

That is why the VW engines when the emissions is turned on full time the MPG takes a 43% dump.

That is the reason. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

$20 maybe, If I need a diesel truck to haul with it won't be a mid-sized truck.

I won't own a V6 Taco, as you can't get them without that asstastic 6-speed

And that also means I won't own a 2016 or newer, as I only drive 5 speed 2.7s in reg or access cab

Exactly....the most over rated advantage of a diesel in a midsize truck......second is fuel economy when you have to pay $43000 to get it. My neighbor has a 3/4 diesel plow truck he uses to tow his 10000 lb boat and plow with and I have a diesel tractor I use to grade roads with. I don't see a Tacoma being used for tasks like these. The three biggest bragging points on mid siz trucks are three of the most over rated.....lockers, oversize tires and diesels.

I have a friend with a 2915 Ram EcoDiesel and he tells me that 28-30mpg is very easy to get without even being very light footed. He has been very happy with it.

Where did this statistic come from? I hadn't heard anything about that large of a decrease in fuel economy.

You would think by 2915 it would get better mileage then that.

Toyota gas motors last longer than I would ever keep the truck so longevity is not a factor for me. If I wanted a dedicated towing vehicle I would own a Tundra. I would say the amount I would be willing to pay would be solely dependent on MPG.

Nothing. In my case at least it offers no value.

Setting aside the various TCO components others have already mentioned, as well as the fact I don't need the torque/tow/load benefits, just look at fuel costs.

US diesel used to be cheaper than gas, as it should be (less refined). No more. So even with a possible increase in MPG, it's pretty much a 0 game at best.

A friend in Guatemala has a intercooled turbo diesel DC 4wd manual trans Hilux. THAT is a value. Their diesel is considerably lower than gas, the turbo makes it run well on the hwy, and even in it's stock form it will handle off road duties that 90% of 4wd vehicles here never even attempt.

Here's is a reason #101 why even small diesel is better.
On that tow test duramax Colorado spins wheels with 5600 lb trailer. Holy Torque.
I wonder if anybody with 2016 Tacoma can spin wheels with 5600 lb attached.
