I work in a GM parts dept. and I agree the noise is similar to the GM issue. On GM V8s the piston noise was caused by carbon build up and turned out to be completely harmless, although many customers were annoyed. A complete carbon cleaning would fix the issue, but it usually came back. On a brand new engine like the OP's I doubt it's a carbon build up problem, but I could be wrong. My 14 Taco with 7000 miles on it does not make those noises.

So, it's possibly a case of it wasn't broken, but they fixed it anyway?

My aunt has a 6.2 Yukon Denali that has had piston slap since it was new in 2008, it now has over 100k. Although it is a nuisance it hasn't caused any longevity issues. She had a trusted friend and local mechanic go though the bottom end thinking she had a rod knock, in the end he told her it was piston slap and to not worry about it and just drive it.

@scottalot had this problem, the dealership replaced the oil pump, problem solved!
I believe Toyota is aware of this issue...

I wonder if 0W30 engine oil would be beneficial in the 4L engine? Bob The Oil Guy seems to think so. My engine makes this noise just a little bit at start up.

I know that bob the oil guy has a good rep. But..... The engineers at Toyota have a better rep. They have designed this engine from the ground up to work with a specific oil weight. I wouldn't venture beyond that.

I don't know, the first video sounded bad and not normal to me. The last video sounded similar to mine but I have 125,000 miles. What I find bothersome is that scottalot confirmed that as a bad oil pump and I would differ to his ear with all the issues he had. Confusing issue when noises are involved, I'll try to get a video of mine.

I don't get it. How can you produce so many trucks with bad oil pump.
Toyota should swap you new engine guys. Bad oil pump puts wear on the engine.

Is the oil pump for sure the reason for this noise? Should I be taking my truck to the dealer?

That is what it looks like. Problem is if oil pump is not giving correct oil pressure, everything wears much quicker. So they may replace pump now but if you screwed engine up, in 40 000 miles you may get some catastrophic failure out of warranty. So if they not giving you new engine they should at least give you extended warranty until 120k miles
