I'd love to have a diesel GM, but damn sure don't want one of the first few years after the issues we had with the 6.6. Maybe I'll pick one up in a couple years when the kinks have been worked out.

    Automatic Locking Rear Differential

But no crawl control as in the new Tacoma Off-Road Auto

My version will be the sport....so no crawl control either. It I'm fine with that. 4wd will suit me fine, as well as hill assist for boat ramps etc.

Yeah but can you spin your tires on 2016 Tacoma with 5600 lb trailer behind it ?
Because that would mean towing your trail rig is going to be super easy.

Everyone likes to point out reliability issues with GM...

LS series pushrod v8 has been around since practically the 40's and manufacturers have yet to build an alternative that beats it for packaging, power and efficiency as a complete package.

Not to mention, you're all apparently forgetting the FRAME on Tacomas have a tendency to dissolve when misted with water.

Every manufacturer has their share of problems. Toyota has a well earned reputation. However, the new twins are excellent trucks.

Crawl control is a gimmick. 99% of Tacoma buyers don't off-road, don't use 4wd, and don't need any of those features when they're doing their Costco runs. You don't honestly think crawl control is a more useful feature than power memory seats, do you? The problem is that it's not even optional. Don't want the option, don't get it.

We will see. I am not a gambling man, but I doubt the twins will have the reliability of the tacoma. New Silverados are rated by consumer reports to be 95% below average. Even though the 2nd generation tacoma comes in last for pickups it has the highest reliability rating both new and used.

It's not just the motor, it's all components. I rarely here of total engine failure

    What's the diesel cost again?
The weight of that was within the specs of the Taco V6. No, it wont spin the tires, but it's still doable.. Not buying a Taco to tow though personally..
My 4runner can easily tow that as well... Spinning tires not required..

I would like to have a diesel, but it would be a major pain in the rear end for me in the winter

I actually think it's a better feature to have than memory seats. Use it or not. It's a Tacoma. Who buys a Tacoma with memory seats being the go or no go deal breaker on the purchase? If you do, that's fine.. But I've never even heard of this being a problem for most previous owners.. Saying 99% of ppl who own a Tacoma don't offroad or use 4x4 is as accurate as me saying 99% of Colorado/Canyon owners don't tow.. That point was quite lame.

According to Toyota surveys 40% of Tacoma owners take their trucks offroad but according to Mike Sweers in his recent interview he admitted when they did the survey they did not define offroad (e.g. short trips on gravel or dirt roads or the extreme stuff that gets posted on offroad forums).

Using the trucks around here as an sample ( live an hour away from Rockies) I would say maybe 3-5 % of owners do extreme offroad.

You don't need to plug in most modern light duty diesels. I've fired up 6.6 duramax's down to -10F without plugging in and sitting all night.
