I am interested in the Tacoma 2016 TRD off-road, double cab with 6 foot bed. I would like to put a pop-up camper on it. However I would like to remove the camper at times and use the bed. How difficult is it to remove the tail gate in order to load the camper?

I use to have a F150 with a quarter cab over camper. I never had to remove the tailgate. The camper was on jack stands high enough I just backed between the stands , then lowered the camper.

Why do you believe the tailgate needs to be removed to load the pop up camper?

The downloaded 2016 Tacoma manual Page 117 goes through the procedure. You have to deal with the wiring for the backup camera.

Take your truck to the Montreal Travelodge Park/Sleep/Fly & Rob. The staff there will tell you exactly where to park, and have it gone in 30 seconds after check in. Happened to me.

It's pretty easy to remove, it comes with a cap for the camera wiring harness while the tailgate is off.
