I appreciate your help on this. Is there a type of paint or primer or degreaser or any brands that you would recommend? as well as try to avoid?

Enamel instead of laquer and self etching primer made to use with enamel and by the same manufacturer as the paint. Be sure to pay attention to the recoat window between coats of primer and finish. Basically follow the manufacturers instructions to the letter. There is a lot of information on the net about cleaning and degreasing for paint prep. Also about what grits of sandpaper to use and don't forget to pick up a tack cloth.

Thanks, If you were near me I'd sell them to you. I do get compliments on them all the time though. I just want to have the option of going skinnier with a more narrow tire

You can remove the chrome finish using household chlorine bleach. Use a plastic container, cover the emblem in bleach, takes about a week but chrome finish will be completely removed with no damage to the underlying plastic - ready for prep and paint.

You don't have to remove the chrome for plasti dip. I just used rubbing alchohol. It's been a year year and all is still good. I go through a (touch less ) pressure washer car wash twice a week. On top of me monthly waxing and detail by hand. All has held up. And you can't powder coat plastic unless it can hold up to temp. Which the logos will not

    A few things
I brushed the dead bugs off mine and sprayed it with plastidip. 6 months later and it still looks good.

The Plastidip peels rights off the paint really easy. You need to tape around the badge, leave about an inch between the badge and tape so you can peel it away easy. Just mask offa large area for overspray. The overspray does come off but it's easier not to mess with it.
When you peel it off it comes off beautifully around the badge. You'll need to use a toothpick or something like that to get the dip off from inside the letters.
There are a bunch of videos on YouTube too.
