Doug thorley header sound?

I just installed thorely longtube headers. Is it supposed to sound raspy??. i have trd intake and stock exhaust.

 

not too sure about the raspy part,as i dont have them as of yet, but they may need to break in a bit. the intake usually makes an intake a bit louder, but the tubes may be resonating a bit more than shorty headers. probably normal.

 

post a video or a soundclip when you get a chance...

 

I would put a sound clip but i dont have anything to record the sound. Im in orange county if u want to hear the trd and thorley header sounds..it sounds raspy after around 4 thousand rpms.Maybe i should double check the tightness of the bolts again.

 

Well i double check every bolts. All bolts are tight. oh well I guess its the way its suppose to sound.Performance wise, i didnt feel much of a difference. It seems a little more power on the low end.Excellent quality headers, fits perfectly.

 

i hated the sound of the DTLT's with stock exhaust. It sounds much better with the URD Exhaust

 

I have the doug thorley headers as well, i read that the rasp is from the exhuast manifolds being cold. Once they warm the rasp is gone and have the awesome sound of a bad ass truck.

I just finished installing a jardine catback. the raspy sound is pretty much gone. It is mainly raspy in the morning when cold.

 

sometime today, digital camera is still charging

 

true that lol... with the stock exhaust there is rasp i had it for a while i have urd y and cat back along with the headers and its loud but no to loud i like the sound and there is little rasp only when cold and between 3.4k and 3.8k

 

I have DTLH's and they do sound raspy..... This is normal because your eliminating your front cats. The front cats act as resonators to resonate the sound which prevents the raspy sound given off on acceleration. DT makes a Y pipe that has resonators in place of the factory cats and it eliminates that annoying sound..... So I've heard.

 

I think you are talking about the Pipe Bombs. But I believe they are still in the developement stage.

I would agree with previous statements: If you add high flow headers to your restrictive stock exhuast, it is probably interupting the efectiveness of the headers ability to scavange the air out of the exhuast heads.

Free up you Cat-back with at least a high flow muffler, or go with a better but more expensive Cat-back, which will probably solve your problem. Hell, when I added a URD Y-pipe to my set up, it created an even deaper tone. So, even the stock Y-pipe is preventing the headers from working to there full effectiveness.

Just a thought.

 

So how do you like your URD Y pipe? Was it worth the investment..

 

It will grow old with my truck. 100% better quality than stock piping. Plus now I have complete stainless from Headers to tip. Yes it was well worth it.

Too bad toyota cant take pride in the exhaust piping like URD and others do. Guess thats why the After market will always profit.
