They do a comparison driving from Tacoma, WA to Colorado Springs, CO (clever) in the Nov 2015 issue that just arrived on my doorstep. Hate to say it but the Tacoma kinda gets smoked... It did not win any category (Vehicle, Powertrain, Chassis, Experience) on the score card.

    Vehicle:
    Colorado:
    87
    Tacoma: 79

    Powertrain:
    Colorado:
    53
    Tacoma: 47

    Chassis:
    Colorado:
    58
    Tacoma: 49

    Experience
    Colorado:
    19
    Tacoma: 15

    Total Score (240 Possible):
    Colorado:
    217
    Tacoma: 190

    Performance:
    Tacoma:
    0-60:
    8.1 sec
    1/4 Mile: 16.2 sec @ 91mph
    70-0 Braking: 195 ft.
Roadholding: .64 g (stability control inhibited)
    MPG Observed: 19

    Colorado:
    0-60:
    7.6 sec
    1/4 Mile: 15.9 sec @ 88mph
    70-0 Braking: 197 ft.
    Roadholding: .73 g
    MPG Observed: 19 mpg

    Tacoma:
    Pros:
Off Road Ability, Quality Feel, Cargo Handling Made Easy.
Cons: Lousy Driving Position, Low Cornering Limits, A Hunt and Peck Transmission.
Verdict: Revised, Updated, and Better. But it's still the same...

    Colorado:
Pros: Refined Drivetrain, Comfortable Seats, Well Mannered Ride in a Good Looking Wrapper.
Cons: Unfinished Bed, Interior Pieces Look Cheap.
Verdict: Full of Virtues New to GM's Lil-Bro Trucks.

Is this a comparison coming up in the new issue?

Edit: my bad, didn't read your whole post.

Dang useless drum brakes... lol. In all seriousness, I don't think anyone is disputing the GMs seem great and cushy off the assy. line, but everyone knows what they will be like in 5 years. If you want a car, there are much nicer cars than the Colorado.

So essentially the Tacoma is a better quality, more refined vehicle that is more off-road capable. Sounds like a clear winner for what I, and likely most mid-size truck consumers care about.

And bottom line, if you get one of the twins, you aren't getting the piece of mind you have with a Toyota.

Interesting, but not surprising. To bad reliability couldn't be tested. Also, why they would test road handling is beyond me. Did they confuse these trucks with sports cars?

Toyotas rarely do well in Car and Driver comparison tests.
Hondas and BMWs almost always win comparison tests on Car and Driver.

Right, and and most people care about quality, reliability, name recognition, and with trucks, capability. All of which the Tacoma wins.

The Colorado has a cushier ride and is slightly faster. Cool...

I like how the Tacoma performed better on the brake test. With rear drum brakes.

I'm wondering if they disabled it or if it could mean the corning limit was lowered because of the stability control...tho "inhibited" sure sounds like they shut it off.

Doesn't list which Trim or if ECT was engaged. The 1/4 miles shows Taco at higher speeds but overall slower time. I would assume ECT was not engaged.

"Quality Feel" - hands down the reason why Tacoma is already outselling Colorado/Canyon. GM builds vehicles with showroom appeal in mind instead of longevity. Why? Because Many buy "shiny" over solid.

I never understood the concern about this. I purposely tested the brakes hard when I test drove, and I was extremely impressed. Someone could have told me it was Fred Flintstone's heels braking and I would have thought, 'FF-Heel brakes work awesome'.

Wow this thread is going to turn into another third gen train wreck by this afternoon

I'll never buy a gm product due to the whole ignition switch debacle but it's going to be interesting how many people come forth making up excuses for the gen 2.5 Tacoma

I suspected the truth about the truck would come out 1 to 6 months after the initial product launch in Tacoma Washington when all the YouTube stars came out with their glowing reviews. I'm guessing as more "journalists " get long term access to the truck then more stories like this will be written

I'm not saying the 2016 is crap, I've always said Toyota could have done better for their loyal customer base

If you want to flame me then go ahead

At the end of the day the numbers that really matter is units sold, reliability and cost of ownership. I looked at the Colorado in person, It did nothing for me. The interior was bland. It did have more leg room in the back for passengers. Bottom line is, a girl can be smart sweet have good up bringing, but if she don't have nice TnA she's not going to get asked to the prom.

I hope this drives droves of buyers to go for the Colorado and leaves Taco's on the lot collecting dust  This should help some of us get some smokin' deals on this clunker of a truck that no one wants... right.. dream on..

Maximum g-force on a skidpad is hardly relevant to most people driving their factory pickup trucks on public roads. The test was especially worthless because one of the test subjects was limited by electronic stability control.
