Yes. This would be how I would go about it. Northern Colorado Driveline in Greeley could set this up no problem. You would then have to re-shim the rear pinion to get that angle in line with the shaft. Double cardans are expensive so be prepared for that.

I wonder if a 1st gen rear shaft section wouldn't bolt right up? I really don't know if the patterns are the same for the yokes or if they use the same u-joint.

You would have to take the entire shaft to them off the truck. They don't want the truck. Mark on the slip joint where the ride height is so they know what length they are working with when they shorten the shaft after adding the new double cardan.

Looking at this pic of a 2nd gen center joint, it looks a similar flange mount. It may be possible to swap in a 1st gen rear tube with double cardan joint for a junkyard cost. We need to know the bolt centers on the flanges and the length of the shaft to see if it might work.

I would have assumed at this point in time that maybe somebody has already tried this?

Every time I read "double cardan" in his rant I pictured Old Brett as a Mr Rogers type wearing a double breasted cardigan sweater.

You can try but I wouldn't get overly excited. We tried everything on this lifted taco at work. If u want to shim the axle housing and add a double cardin I'd talk to rocky mtn driveline. They built my rear driveshaft in my taco. Great company...

@CoTacoTRD its good thing we didn't try the brake lines the other weekend. I took it to get the alignment done and had them throw the extended lines on and two of the lines had nuts that were stuck on and they ended up stripping them. They tried re-flaring the lines and that did not work, so they are having to replace a few things. Thankfully I am out of town this week and don't need the truck.

Jesus Christ a dang bird landed on some high voltage power lines right over us while we were driving and exploded the thing. Loud as heck and a giant blue ball of flames and sparks came out. Scared the crap out of me lol

All this drive shaft talk has me thinking of my nice warm cardigan. :D

Seriously though it sounds like a lot of expense to try to fix the take off vibe. I paid more attention to it while driving today and I might have it but it's hard to tell with the spacing in my MT's. They vibrate like hell at low speeds. Honestly Beca it would be easier to buy some gnarly MT'S and mask the vibe. :D
