I did and will again do this on 265/75 tires and 2" lift. plenty of skid plate impacts.

Right Channel Radios is a great online place to buy eveything you need. I use a compact Uniden radio (about $60) that works very well especially considering the price. You need a decent antenna and it needs to be mounted properly (the Right Channel site has good information on this). Plus before you get on the air have someone with a SWR meter check out you antenna match and adjust the antenna accordingly. This matching is important and should be done every few months and certainly if you relocate the antenna. I bought a SWR meter at Radio Shack for about $25 so I can test this whenever I feel the need.

There is a thread on TW about 700 pages long about 35" tires on Tacoma's, WAY too much fender cutting, hammer pounding for my liking. Alternative is fiberglass fenders and the $$ that involves to make it look decent including paint. It is a slippery slope I am resisting for now. Jon has found that he can squeeze 34" tires under his new truck without too much fanfare, and this may be the next big thing.

In all seriousness, i agree with what you are doing. for what it takes to fit 35s, its really not worth it.
cant wait to see your truck with 34s :)

You choose, i would assume a longer antenna would be best

Longer isn't necessarily better. It all depends on what the final SWR check says after you set up the system. Antenna length, type/location/grounding quality of your antenna mount and length of your antenna cable come into play.

By the way, is there anyone on here that wouldn't mind me using their 1st gen to prototype a bedrack? (long or short bed doesn't matter)

How long do you need it? If no one in the Tucson area can help I might make a trip down next weekend.
