What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

i did this in august for the rear half of the frame. it really is a crap ton of work and i hated it haha. i used a needle scalar hooked up to the air compressor and it was very effective for removing the scale and peeling undercoating that toyota sprayed 5 years ago. i would recommend that tool + grinder with wire wheel for anyone doing this job if possible

 

Not a bad idea on the needle scaler, loud as fuck but would work well, hadn't even thought of that! For a wire wheel I usually use Norton rapid strip wheels, much easier to control and no wires sticking all over you. Though they can't get everywhere a wire wheel can.

 

Replaced my valve cover gaskets and spark plugs. Productive Sunday

 

How long did it take you?

 

yeah you will 100% need hearing protection haha. you can find them for pretty cheap though and they are also great for getting into those tight corners around welded brackets and such

 

Definitely hearing protection! Yeah even the harbor freight ones work well. I've never used one to clean up rust but used to use them all the time at work to add texture to metal.

 

Believe me. There's many things I'd rather be doing lol. I really hate painting, and I really REALLY hate prepping.

Haha just replaced the spark plugs for now. No time for funny business.

 

So I crawled under my truck to look at my Exhaust and saw my 1.5 inch lift blocks. I want to get rid of them but I don't think I really don't want an add a leaf I don't THINK, what Is another option that's better than blocks...

 

Wheelers or Icon 3 leaf mini pack or shackles.

I will be having 2 weeks off in December and plan to use that down time to do some front end maintence. I pretty sure best place to buy oem LBJ is from camelback Toyota, but was wondering where there cheapest place to get outter tie rods is at? moog is fine for tie rods end correct? was thinking maybe change the lca bushings also, but I don't have a press to remove and press back in the bushings.

 

With shackles do they give any additional flex?

 

I would think so, definitely a lower cost alternative to blocks in any case.

 

Any brand of shackles you recommend? Looking for 1.5 inch of lift

 

Toytec adjustable shackles.

 

Shackle will cause leafs to negative arch more at full stuff possibly limiting the travel if overload can support weight (not really as bad as im making it sound but..). Id choose aal
