Hi all brand new to taco's just got my first an 2010 DC LB 4X4 sport. Love it!!!

My question is I carry lots of gear in the bed and want it locked up!

I like the hard covers but I also like the tri fold but it must lock! What does everyone recommend? Also what is this locking tailgate that locks with the normal door locks? I don't care too much for the pop n lock.

    Thanks all

imo a cap on a truck make no sence to me if i wanted that id woulda just got a suv
also i would never put a tonneau on a 4wd truck unless it was a street queen the pourpose of a truck is to haul stuff and a tonneau would just get in the way of that

but on a x runner most def i would have one on there :D

I agree but when i haul several thousands of dollars of kiteboarding gear around I don't want to remove it from the truck each day but I need it locked.

go with a hard cover. they have their own lock which indirectly locks the tailgate. On the 2010, you will lose your back-up camera if you go with a pop-n-lock. Incidently, the back-up camera is fantastic for hooking up to a trailer!!!

Roll-n-lock on my crew cab. If I could do it again, I would've gotten a hard top just because I haul a lot of crap and perfer the storage over looks!

Bakflip HD, it's based on the same design as the G2 but with aluminum panels and heavier duty weather stripping. The cover sits flush with the box sides so it gives the naked look with the convenience of lockable storage. You do lose access to the side rails but the front rail is still usable. The D hooks in the bed are more secure than the side rails anyway so I don't miss the side cleats as I wouldn't trust my motorcycle or sled tied to the rails.

Soft tonneau. Choice of open bed or covered.
I had a cap for 12 years on my 1st gen. I found it troublesome at times when I had big things to carry that wouldn't fit undeneath the cap. Once I had to borrow my father-in-law's station wagon to bring home a queen size box spring and mattress. He had a roof rack and I didn't. I had to take the cap off once to carry a small sailboat.
I have a roll up on my 2nd gen and now I can carry big things (my motorcycle, snow blower, my cousins Ruckus) or protect stuff and lock it underneath or just roll it up and throw things in the bed. Best of both worlds.
I keep the bed covered all through winter to keep the snow out.

I've had caps and soft tonneaus on previous trucks. They're great when you need covered and/or lockable storage, but occasionally they got in my way. With the double cab we have a lot more interior storage so we'll go naked for now. SWMBO suggested a soft tonneau but we're holding off on that for now.

This is really a personal choice and depends on how you're using your truck. Seems like lots of folks have given good reasons here regarding advantages of the various options so I hope that helps you make your decision.

Of course we will require pictures if you buy anything. :D
