So they hold their value really well after losing half of their value (30 grand) in the first few years. I would agree with that, but I don't think its that awesome.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Sounds like your buddy got ripped off. I could see that price being justifiable for a decked out model, but a base model truck that is pushing 10 years old? Could get a lot newer one for that. I see used 6.7 Cummins going for less than that around here.

I feel your pain. I talked to a local dealer here in GA about a trade in...they wanted to give me 6k for my 04 double cab 4wd with 99k on the clock.

Edit: I should mention that they went up to $7,500 when I laughed at the first offer. "$7,500 and not a penny more...we will have to send it to auction and they are going for $9,000 at auction on the high end"

Trade-in on anything will be low when test driving a new vehicle that's less than 6 mos into that product year.

Try and find any 2016 car or truck in exactly the config you'd prefer in Sept/Oct of 2015 and the dealer will make you PAY one way or another.

Always work your deal on the new one first without clouding the issue of what the trade in is worth, because all they do is treat the trade in as a downpayment on MSRP of the new one ... a time tested ripoff that happens all the time.

"How much would you like your monthly payment to be?" << another question to ignore, because the Finance Dept. (the real profit dept, NOT Sales ...) can "magically" make your monthly anything you want.

Hey I'm your neighbor. Can't see much on my phone at the moment, maybe it's your silver truck I saw the other day near Kroger's/Dominoes/Menchies?

I actually just moved to Dallas, GA, I gotta update my profile. I was over to Kroger and Dominos a lot though when I lived in Woodstock. Couldn't get enough of the cheesy bread lol.

Yeah thats a joke of an offer. Similar trucks are going for $10k plus around me and thats private party so a dealer would be even more.

Also, KBB is kinda a joke even with putting in your zip code. I just KBB'd my truck and got a value of ~$5000 and nothing on my local craigslist is less than $6000-6500 unless its a salvage title.

Also, know exactly what you want for your vehicle on trade in and know exactly what you want for a new vehicle, its options, and how much you want to pay for it. I don't negotiate separate amounts, I negotiate the difference between the new vehicle and the trade in.

It amazes me when people walk into a dealership and ask them how much they will give them on a trade in and then are offended when a low number comes back. Know the value of your trade in before going in. Asking a dealer how much they will offer you is basically telling them you have done zero research.
