About 2" from light housing to the frame.

Yea I just looked at a 16 today and saw that. Terrible place for the bulbs. I would be willing to take the housing out if I had to but worried the fans won't clear

We will soon find out. Also would depend on the LED mfg. Not a fan of plug and play HID's. (speaking from experience). If the VLED's don't fit then going with high end halogen's and use the LED's in the high beam.

I've actually had good luck with plug and play HID systems. I just can't do halogen anymore, too dim for my taste. I hope VLEDS delivers soon.

I'm also on a quest to see if my TRD exhaust will fit my new one. The long bed 3rd gen looks identical to the 2nd gen short bed. Exhaust wise I mean

Sam, any chance you can check something for me? On my 2nd gen there's two black d rings by the tailgate. It seems there's a d ring option on the newer ones but some people have said theirs came with those without the added cost. Does your truck have them?

Replaced low and fog light bulbs today with Sylvania Ultra star bulbs, but the new bulbs only made a slight lighting improvement. These bulbs made a major lghting improvement difference on my gen2, but not too much of an improvement on the 2016.

Also, fog light bulbs can easily be accessed from under the hood.

Actually there are 4 now. There's 2 in the front corners along with the 2 in the rear.

Correct. No option on my paperwork. Not sure if it's in all the SR options.

I didn't think to look at the SR I drove yesterday to see if it did or not. I'll see what the dealership can find out if there's any 3rd gens on their lot. I'm really curious to find out about my exhaust tho, my eyeball measuring system felt like the dimensions were identical from the 2nd gen double cab short bed to the new double cab long bed. I noticed there is an additional pipe between the header and muffler piece that makes the short bed exhaust smaller but on the long bed I wouldn't be surprised to see the part numbers carry over from the older short bed

The front d-rings are mounted on the lower front sides and not on the bed floor. They do not swivel.

Oh ok so the silver ones like the previous year. Are the back ones still mounted to the bed floor on a swivel?

question for you Sam - do you think this is doable (low beams) by removing the housing? also wondering if there is a different LED brand that might fir better even if its a minor tradeoff in brightness?

There's multiple led brands that have different cooling systems. Personally I think the higher end ones with the fans is the only way to go. The VLEDS system has two LMZ chips on each side. The LMZ chip is 4 diodes so that's 16 total as opposed to the other LMZ ones I saw that had 2 chips total. Half the diodes so I'm sure they won't be nearly as bright. Quality doesn't look nearly as high either but I think they do have a warranty. I was thinking the same thing. Remove the housing for install if necessary. I emailed VLEDS to ask the distance between the back of the collar to the back of the cooling fan housing to see if it will fit from a dimensions perspective

Thanks. I'm not new to LED but new to retro-fitting them on cars/trucks (mostly use them on my m/c and MTB). I'll search around but if you have links to helpful threads or sites please post 'em up. I changed out my m/c lights and damn if it didn't make a huge difference!

VLEDS is definitely the best it seems from quality build perspective. Quite a few companies make CREE LED headlight bulbs but they're hit or miss. Not really the quality control you'll see on Phillips products which is what the LMZ chips are. Xenon depot makes an LMZ headlight kit as well. Uses flexible copper heat sync, but again they don't look to be nearly the quality and I trust a cooling fan way more than that other heat sync. Haven't dug too much into research, I usually retrofit HID into mine but the LED is supposedly brighter than even a 55w HID kit and the lifespan is substantially longer
