I've been reading several threads about wheel bearing symptoms and solutions. I have a 2011 4X2 Pre-runner that is making some noise up front. I think it's a wheel bearing, I talked to a mechanic and he thinks it's a wheel bearing, and after reading several threads...all points to a wheel bearing. I guess I have a couple questions that might have been addressed in one of the 100+ pages that I missed.

I've watched several videos, but all the videos I've seen are of 4X4 vehicles. Is there a good one out there that is of a 4X2?

I'm ready to pull the trigger and buy a couple kits, but noticed that there are options for extended studs (I don't think I need) and optional seals. What additional parts, if any, do I need for a stock 4X2? If I am buying the complete assy., what special tools do I need? Torque specs?

    Thanks to everyone in advance...

The videos you are asking about, is this for diagnosing a wheel bearing or replacing the assembly?

Replacing the Prerunner assembly is one step easier than the 4x4 since you do not have a cv axle nut & torque spec to worry about. To replace the Prerunner hub, you would remove the wheel, caliper & bracket, rotor, 4 hub assembly mounting bolts & you are done. Clean out the spindle & installation is reverse of removal. Basic hand tools will get the job done.

There are no additional seals to worry about with the Prerunner, the assembly is 100% ready to go out of the box.

I was looking for a video that shows R&R. I just found a good how-to R&R video that shows a 4X2 hub assy. Thanks for replying. Now the torque specs... I remember seeing them on a thread somewhere in here...

There is nothing in particular that needs to be torqued with a Prerunner. The 4x4's cv axle nut has to be torqued for proper preload on the bearing. The Prerunner assembly had a large nut that retains the hub, it is torqued to 203 ft/lbs when assembled.

Finally have the chance to post my taco's ride is smooth and quiet again. When I pull together some more funds, I'll be ordering a spare for the passenger side. Thanks Kev!
