Power Tailgate Lock

    For about $50 in parts I installed a power door lock actuator in the tailgate and tapped it into the rear passenger door lock wires. Now the tailgate locks and unlocks with the the touch handle and remote. This is something Toyota should have done, especially on the Limited. It is silly to me to have to carry a key for the tailgate when everything else is keyless.

    Sorry I don't have a complete write up but I'm happy to provide details if anyone is interested.

    Glad to hear it's pretty easy. Someone should make an aftermarket kit that adds this feature.

    Amazon has power door lock actuators for about $5. Wiring, connectors, tubing, inline fuse (5A), zip ties, and tape were purchased from Pep Boys.

    Search youtube for the Pop and Lock install video on a 2013 Tacoma. The wiring is basically the same. The actuator is installed directly below the lock. I drilled a hole in the center of "T" section of the plastic arm that disables the handle when the key is turned. The actuator rod is fitted into this hole. Mount the actuator without the rod then test fit and bend the rod so that it securely fits into the hole without slipping out. You will need to fit the rod into actuator before the final installation.

    The wires in the B pillar for the door lock are pink/green and pink/red.

    That is the plan. :) I figure it will take me about an hour to install with routing the wire through the firewall and back through the cab to the B pillar... That really means 3 hours 4 beers and somehow sticking a screw through one of my fingers.
