We going nowhere, since you got your panties all in a bunch, anybody else would like to watch Disc vs drum test and explain what kind of sorcery here makes discs stop faster.
So lets put few myths to coffin
Myth #1 Drums are as good as discs at stopping vehicle.

Myth#2 Drums are better for offroading.

Now for the new guys just learning.
Anybody who tells you Myth #1 or #2 is a moron. Avoid them.

They didn't fail, but the braking performance was pretty lackluster. I do have a 12 foot long 3k GVW trailer that I've posted in the towing section. That trailer has no brakes. My brother in law has a 2003 4runner 4.0L V6 4x4 equipped with rear discs and it was a noticeable difference in braking performance with it vs the Tacoma when towing the same loads in that trailer.

Shit, surprised this thread isn't locked already with the whole " My stupidity is better than your stupidity " posts, no worries gentlemen, your stupidity is equally....stupid....:notsure:

Brake pad composition? Fresh brake fluid? How do you know that the rear brakes were the cause of lackluster performance?

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Only you would choose a propaganda video to "prove" something. There is a disk brake conversion for the 1st gens Tacoma's that is very unpopular because its actually worse than the drums... Disk doesn't always beat drum, it comes down to design.

In the end, its not what's bolted to the truck that counts, its how it works. 3rd gen drums seem to work just fine.

BlueT, didn't you already get banned for this kind of bull shit? Knock it off.

Ok we get it. Disk brakes are better then drums. And the drum brakes on the Tacoma are sufficient because most of the braking is done by the front brakes. :annoyed:

According to Sweers, most buyers don't think towing is an issue and the rear brakes have enough less work to do. Drum maintence is less then disc maintence. In a word, yes they are sufficient; why not use the system that is requires the maintence according to owners. . Adding the hand brake also takes advantage of the large drums rather then smaller ones within the discs.
