I am selling my 2010 Taco and am about to place an order for a 2016 Access Cab, Sport with M/T. Looking at all the specs I am very confused by the fact that all Models of the 2016's are coming with P rated tires. Perhaps Passenger Rated Tires are OK for a 2WD driving on pavement, however, they are not for those of us that must travel up mountain roads that are covered with crushed rock. Those with P-Tires learn painfully quick that they are not built for that kind of duty as rocks will puncture the tread. It is for this reason that I immediately took my 2010 from the dealer and installed a set of LT235/85-16 Toyo A/T's on it. Unfortunately I will be doing the same thing this time with one difference. The buyer of my 2010 will get the fancy alloy's and Passenger Tires from the 2016 and I will be using my 2010's steel wheels and LT's. Toyota ought to be ashamed....Especially on the O/R Model.

Perhaps I should add - The 235's give me suspension clearance so I can put chains on all 4 wheels....A requirement for where I work in the winter in the mountains east of Seattle. Wide tires look great but are not meant for snow. I have a set of rims with M/T's, same size for the snow season.

It's a matter of some of us vs most tacoma users. I'm going to go ahead and guess that most people probably buy a tacoma for work or because they like tacomas/pick ups.

Pretty much all manufacturers sell their vehicles with the least expensive tires practical (i.e., cost effective for the manufacturer). Some people will care, others won't. Did you buy the truck? Yes. Toyota wins.

The OEM Wranglers aren't the greatest. I put a 3/4" gash in one of mine in the 1st 400ish miles while off-road.

I'm putting a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers on my TRD Sport 4x4 when I get it... if Toyota ever gets around to building it.

too bad the Tacoma is aimed at car owners trying to look tough....... Only the hilux is built like a truck.... The Tacoma stock is a Camry with a frame and bed.

Light truck tires (LT) are made for light trucks, AKA 250/2500+ full size. Medium are 450/4500 and heavy are class 8+. A tacoma is a sub-light truck and only really "needs" p-rated tires. But you can certainly put a LT tire on for offroad usage but wear characteristics will be compromised versus a P.

If they make the drivetrain beefy with a stronger frame everyone would bitch about other things because toyota would have to make compromises. But when I see trucks like the hilux and the isuzu dmax overseas I get so jelous.

Funny, people want stronger frames and drivetrain when most of them never leave pavement.

I dont think people that never leave the pavement wants stronger frames and drivetrain. I dont think those people even know what a frame or drivetrain is.

Think of it as buying a Corvette, GT40 or Porsche and adding speed parts.

Toyota builds for the masses. You alter to meet your specific needs. Simple.
