Yes. I didn't want the 2" of lift with them in and I don't have a shell or anything to justify the added capacity at the cost of reduced ride quality. I reused the OEM U-bolts as they are long enough when you remove the helper, so I saved the longer U-bolts that came with the kit and my helpers so I can always swap them in later if needed. The truck now handles weight in the bed much better than stock and doesn't squat so bad when you sit on the tailgate. You can see pics in the Baja thread link in my sig for an idea on the rake.

 

Question about the rear leafs. Is there a difference between the SR5 rear leaf springs and the TRD O/R or TRD Pro rear leafs? I have the 3 plus overload leafs.

 

What's the spring rating for those red baja coils?

 

I think I read somewhere on here that the Baja springs are 650lbs and the Pro springs are 600lbs.

I believe you are correct....they softened up the spring rate a tad on the TRD PRO from I've been told. I to added an ICON Progressive AAL when I got my BAJA. I removed my overload when I installed it.....it rides awesome!!

 

I don't really want to mess with the rear springs as I tow two - three seater Sea-Doos.

But, is it necessary to achieve the same suspension as the TRD Pro? One day, I'll go with Kings and All Pro standard duty coils, but for now, I just want the factory setup.

 

No. If you have the 3 plus overload, that is what came on the Baja/Pro.

No, the Baja/Pro does not have an AAL. People like myself do the AAL to maintain the rake, otherwise you will be nose high when loaded or towing. If you are concerned about heavy towing capacity you can leave the overloads in with the icon AAL for a 2" rear lift. I can't imagine the tongue weight is very heavy with 2 Sea Doos, I'd expect it too be handled fine with just the AAL. Do you know what the tongue weight is?

 

Well then. Looks like I just may have to do the AAL after all. Is the ride anymore harsh with the AAL? Do you think it would be able to handle a couple hundred pound tongue weight? Also, why did you chose the Icon leafs over the others? You and your suspension thread have been most helpful.

 

I wanted a beefier aal than just a regular add a leaf. I can't remember but I know there is another progressive type aal that people say is the same as the icon brand. I couldn't imagine why it couldn't handle the weight of a couple hundred pounds. As far as the ride....I think it rides awesome, not harsh at all.

 

The ride with the 3 leaf progressive AAL is firmer, but not harsh (with the overload removed). IMO it pairs very well with the front Baja coils, which are also firmer than stock but not harsh. The truck suspension feels sporty with the Baja and the progressive AAL. With the AAL installed, the truck handles moderate weight in the back better than stock. The stock springs sagged and rolled easily, whereas the AAL do a better job in managing weight and resisting roll. I haven't tried it loaded to capacity. Sitting on the lowered tailgate, I've noticed significantly less squat before and after the AAL and I weight 175.

Icon, Wheelers and Toytec 3 leaf progressive AAL are all supposedly the same. I ordered my Baja suspension from Toyota of Dallas (trdpartsforu.com) and they sold the Icon leafs. So I could add the Icon AALs, not pay for additional shipping and order it all from the same vendor.

 

Im having an issue with my Progressive AAL where my driver side sits a whole inch higher then my passenger side. Im starting to think my spring is warped. Im considering ordering OME Dakar's and removing one of the leaves to replace the whole leaf pack+AAL

 

This is a new development? That is odd, if anything I would expect it to be the other way around, where the driver side is lower due to Taco lean. Did you remove your overloads?

If you have stock Baja up front, I think the Dakars will be to high in the rear as they lift 2.75". You can remove a leaf for 2.25". But even then you are going to end up with more rake than a stock Off Road. Toytec BOSS has a 10 leaf 2" rear leaf pack for a similar price.

I removed my overloads when I installed the AAL. But the driver side does sit 1" higher then the passenger side. I actually get a driveline vibration now from about 12-18mph. The driver's side seems to be overly tall.

 

But was it like this right after you installed it, or it happened over time? Did you put the longer side of the AAL to the rear of the truck?

 

Are you sure that you don't have one on backwards??? Something sounds like it's definitely wrong.

 

So, I ordered my TRD Pro kit from TRDParts4U, which is based in Texas. TRD is apparently stationed in California - the same state I'm in. Yet, my kit has to be shipped to Dallas, before it can be shipped back to California. I don't see why TRD doesn't just drop ship it straight to me..... There goes my plans of having the lift installed next week. I guess that just give me mo time to decide what rear AAL I want to go with. Icon or All Pro.
