I didn't actually realize thst Harper basically has no chance of staying pm without a majority

I'd think the Liberals might play ball with the PC's but you never know. Giving the NDP any power will just give them the next election.

 

Both the Liberals and the NDP said they wouldn't support a Harper minority already

 

If the Liberals want to dig their own grave that's their own business. The NDP wilk force a snap election if they are in a coalition situation where Mulcair isn't the PM. Their platform relies on over promising to set them up as the fix it party for the upcoming election in a year. Utopianism is rampant, to bad it doesn't just happen or work under modern economic limitations.

 

Not sure how that would be the case , Liberals have more support and could build more . I actually think a Liberal / NDP coalition would be a good compromise between both of their platforms however the TPP probably makes that impossible

 

Harper could stay as leader of his party and possibly PM of a minority govt, I just don't think he will.

 

He can't stay as pm if the Libs and NDP don't support the government no ?

 

If anyone gets a majority it doesn't matter if the other parties support them but at this point that looks unlikely for any of them

This will be interesting to watch from an outsider's perspective. I find the workings of your election process intriguing; probably because I'm disenchanted with the quagmire ours has become.

It's a sign of how little we actually have to complain about IMHO. Even this economic down turn can be handled ok by basically all of the parties, just in slightly different ways. Most of the decisive issues have to do with child care, mail delivery, and the environment.

Sour? It's been 4 and a half years hasn't it. About time for an election according to da rulz.

The only thing people are griping about, and rightfully so, is how the conservatives called a long election to take advantage of their healthier financial state on the party side. Then again, when has the party in power not manipulated an election as much as possible in their favor.

 

It's been hard to set any sort of limits on elections time wise, whether it's the distance between elections or the run off itself, because at any one time it favors one of the two major parties. Then the media creates a stink about it and nothing changes.

 

Technically the GG made the call. They can refuse the PM's request. It's happened once in the history of Canada basically lol.

Sure it could. Much like we could leave the open call system alone and institute minimum 3 year terms. That way the population benefits from a set minimum term which saves money and politicians can still have control over when to call an election. Good luck getting that common sense stuff passed though...
