Personally, I'd rather spend $1k for 5 brand new retreads, and save $200 or more to spend on gas. THEN, when I take my brand new (less) expensive tires to the desert and use them, I won't be as bummed if I shred one in 5 minutes or chunk them up after a few trips.

I took a gamble with them and so far I'm not dead. Saving money is a win in my book, but you may feel differently.

If you have Hiemed steering you can try spacing the outer pivot up or down to help minimize it. Does it drive shitty in the corners or something?

Ya its heimed steering single sheer, its not on corners that it happens its more on straight roads. Maybe I'm wrong here, but off-road its not that bad theres some bumps that cause it more than others but on the road its pretty bad, any pothole i hit makes the truck want to do a lane change and it jerks the wheel whatever direction I have heard theres not a lot I can do besides going full hydro.

Something is off. Have you cycled your suspension without coilovers? What's your alignment like?

Alignment is fine just got it done after throwing in the new rack. I haven't cycled the suspension without the coilovers for a while now, what do you think is off?

is this codestirr? if so did you try that steering shaft mod yet? It made a difference for me. I also stopped by richer racing today to talk about modding the stock rack like he did before on this truck

this next pic describes what he did

Unfortunately Jonny from richer racing said that was the only tacoma rack he ended up ever modding. Didn't say much other than he wouldn't be willing to do that rack and pinion mod anymore and it ending up just not working out for some reason. For now I'll be doing what khris (sirhk100) did on the TPR racetruck which was adding a 4th mount to the rack to strengthen the rack and help with the splitting down the middle which is where I've seen 90% of them fail.

Also do you have the stock rack bushings or the poly ones?

If you have stock spindles the heim misalignment spacers can end up spacing the pivot to far off from where it needs to be, try adding washers or shorter misalignments, and cycle it

haha what's up man! Yea on that link I sent you some people where having the same symptoms. EVEN after installing a new rack only to find out there wasn't much difference. Which is where your at now which leads me to believe it's that steering shaft. It's easy and fast to check if you have play which I'm sure it will. Grab some vice grips clamp the lower section of the shaft near the pedals told it tight with one arm so it won't move now with the other arm move the steering wheel if you have play even alittle then you know you got that problem. If you ever need a hand with anything hit me up.

I've never posted any pics of this but figured it would help you guys out. Here is my setup as far as steering rack/custom crossmember for the rack. I have been running this setup since around 2006 and even though I still go through about 1 rack a season, I have never had one split in half or break on me. All that ever happens is they start puking grease and the steering gets sloppy. I run the Total Chaos red urethane bushings on the outsides and a custom machined aluminum bushing on the center.

A lot of people claim that bumpsteer is a problem due to the rack being wide. I do agree it makes getting clean steering geometry more difficult, but definitely not impossible. My truck toes in about 1/16" at full droop. No fancy rack modifications or hydraulics. Just good ole fashioned steering/kit design with a lot of thought and math put into it.

Thanks for posting that info Ryan! Glad my truck has the same kit you do. If I ever wanted could you make that custom crossmember for me as well?
