I'm familiar with the OME stuff as thats what I had on my GX470. HOWEVER.....that did not have leaf springs so my question is, are they a needed upgrade for the '16? I'm planning on putting a topper on there at some point, just wondering if the stock leaf's are up to that?

I'm going to do the heavy springs up front with the nitrochargers as I plan on putting the ARB bull bar on when they become available.

How high do you plan on going in the front? If you want truck to sit flat or even stock with a taller rear-end, you're gonna need at least an AAL if you go above 1" in the front...

Whats an AAL? I think I had gotten about 2" out of that setup on my GX, thats what I was planning.

AAL is "add-a-leaf" but you won't want that..trust me. I installed one on mine and it started riding terrible and sagged really bad after 3k miles. You will want at least a progressive AAL pack to add to the stock leafs or replace the stock leaf pack completely.

If you're going to be buying a camper shell I wouldn't recommend the 3 leaf AAL either. I had it, and it wasn't great.

Replaced the entire leaf pack in half the time it took to install the 3 leaf AAL and it's the only way to go IMO. I wish I'd never bothered with trying to supplement the stock leaf pack.

Airbags are another option (that I didn't try). About $300 and a 2 hour install in your driveway.

Airbags needed for just an ARE topper?

Get a set of Dakars and you won't regret it. You don't want to get into using air bags to lift your truck to level it out. If you do it will ride like shit. Air bags are ok to bring up the rear if you are hauling 800 lbs or towing a heavy trailer.

I got the toytec AAL. It rides pretty good not too rough and rides a little softer in my opinion.

    Depends on the weight.

    My shell weighs 225 lbs.

    What does yours weigh?

Try and have someone (or some items) of similar weight stand in your bed and see how it handles the weight, then imagine it getting worse with time because the stock leaf springs are terrible for hauling.

So reading on another thread, the Dakar leafs and nitrochargers do not fit the rear of the '16. Posted said that ToyTec gave them that info. So I guess I'll hold off until OME gets the '16 stuff engineered.

    Dakars should.

    OME shocks shouldn't.

What was wrong with the Dakars?

Why wouldn't the shows fit? Supposedly the same suspension from the '15. Not sure about the dakars....I lost the thread.

Some 2015s wouldn't fit the OME because the lower shock body would interfere with the lower shock mount.

Being as it wasn't every 2015 and only some, I am guessing the 2016 mounts hit the production line mid 2015 MY and so the 2016s would have the same fitment issue.

I was exchanging emails with toytec last week, they said OME rear shocks won't fit without mods, Dakar leafs should fit, but they told me to hold off until they have a chance to test fit them. I think they'll work, and this was more a CYA reply, so Im still debating ordering now.

Without a single mod, not mods.

2015s with the different lower shock mounts just needed to grind 1/8" of metal off of the sides of the mount, and that's all that was needed to clear the shock body.

Air bags will likely improve your ride, not kill it. Different application but my old truck had Firestone 9000s and it did not compromise the ride.
