I heard this is coming but it will be a very limited run.

I also hear the next Jeep will have a truck version but it will have no removable parts except the door and a "streamlined" shape. :(

Don't forget that Ford looks to be planning the return of the ranger possibly in 2018.

I met with a guy who owns a Ford dealership chain today. Ford is currently testing several Ranger configurations around Michigan. Odds are the Ranger is coming back, and he's says if it does they plan on making it a mini F150 and not nerfing it. Price might not be great but they'd make a killing on it due to the lower use of aluminum.

Can you post a source? It is being built along side the wrangler as they will share many components and it is supposed to be 'wrangler based'. I'd be curious if that were true, if the 'streamlined' shape also applied to the next gen wrangler. I can't imagine they would sway the design to far, as it is their best selling vehicle.

My brother, sister in law, boss, best friend and 3 co-workers have all owned Jeep products in the last 5 years. All of them have had serious issues with their vehicles. Engine managment, suspension and drivetrain. It was enough to dissuade me away from ther product when I began my new car search 3 months ago ( and settled on the Tacoma simply out of durability and resale).
I know that every manufacturer has its glitches, but it seems Jeep has had more than its fair share of reliability issues in the last few years. No thanks.

It's all speculation, but plenty of articles about the "JL" online:

    http://www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/wrangler/2017.html

Looks like they will ditch the removable roof and equip certain models with removable windows and possibly body plates. The windshield will also become fixed. The bumper and front end will end up being much like the ones on any SUV. I doubt these ideas are unfounded because I've read literally dozens of articles on our local offroad forum talking about this with different articles that use different sources. It will be interesting to see how the hardcore Jeep crowd reacts.

Hey, at least it won't be unibody like Fiat mentioned in 2013!

Jeep SUV's are complete junk. I've never heard of one someone didn't ditch because of issues.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Aren't all modern Jeep vehicles SUVs?

Isn't a jeep with a cap basically the wrangler unlimited?

Seriously, you need to go look at an unlimited. Rip out the rear seats when you need a box and you are set. I know several guys that compare AC Tacoma's to Jeep Unlimiteds with the seats out.

How can the Tacoma complete against a possible Jeep truck? Wouldn't even be the same ball park as far as sales. Tacoma's will blow it out of the water. You either hate or love the looks of a Jeep. It's daily street practicality compared to a Tacoma won't match up to the average person and that's the majority of buyers in the U.S. On top of that it's a Jeep, Chrysler's reliability doesn't match Toyota.

Not really because the trunk is carpeted and connected to the interior. I want a cap to be able to put my dogs in the back and keep the dirt, hairs and wet dogs out of the inside.

Two type of people will buy a Jeep truck. Those who OR but want a Rubicon out of the box and those who would of bought a Dakota because they are Jeep/Crysler/Dodge fans. Otherwise most people stay the hell away from Fiat unless they need a cheap car in a bind. 70% of Jeep sales are the Cherokee/Renegade/Patriot small SUV's that are dirt cheap.

I'm not acting like anything that I know of regarding this post. I never said there wasn't a billion Wranglers and Cherokees out there or that Jeep doesn't sell cars like mad. Never insinuated any that. I only stated that a Tacoma will outsell any truck Jeep plans to put out

I didn't mean it to come off argumentative, just saying people don't seem to mind that the Wranglers "daily street practicality" completely sucks... they are everywhere.

Given my experience with a brand new Jeep TJ Sport back in 2004 there is no competition, because I no longer consider Jeep/Chrysler brands when choosing a vehicle.
