Clutch squeak Linear Spring swap (TW how to)

oops. I didn't check the 07028 spring (brake pedal spring w/ long hook). I know the 07020 does make contact with the torsional spring tab. I'll check the 07028 this weekend.

 

ok. took 5 minutes and tested the regular brake pedal spring (Part No. 90905-07028).

I get contact on the torsional spring tab.

I put the 4cyl clutch pedal spring back in. If I get bored, I'll order up a 4cyl clutch pedal and swap it in so it works perfectly.

 

Do you know by any chance if #2 will work for a 97 limited 4runner? I couldn't find any info on their brake pedal springs.

 

Not sure exactly what you're asking about as we're replacing the torsional clutch pedal return spring with linear pedal return springs.

As long as you have the same clutch pedal assembly and the attachment point up in the dash, either #1 or #2 will work to replace the torsional spring.

I'm looking to replace my torsion spring as it is worn out as well. I was curious if anyone knew if 4runner brake return springs were the same but I figured it out. Thanks!

 

I did this mod about 6 months ago. After about a month or so I had the squeak again. I used one of the 3 listed above, I'm pretty sure it was "1. 4Cyl Clutch Pedal Return Spring, Part # 90507-14030." It's still better than the dying cat squeak I had before, but it's definitely still noticeable. It's worse in the morning and gets better after driving all day.

 

Could just be cold/humidity making the remaining bushings squeak. Happens to mine all the time.

I used the brake return spring.

It is definitely the one you want to use.

 

Is it the one ending in 07028?

 

Oh geez... I'm going to have to dig through some archived photos to find out for sure. I'll check back in a bit.

Out of the three, I recommend the 4Cyl Clutch Pedal Return Spring, Part # 90507-14030

The others have more spring contact and get a bit noisy.

 

Right I was gonna use the 07028 because the early pics you posted it looked that one had the longest hook end that wouldn't make the coils hit that tab.

 

I can dig through my box of spare parts to see if I still have one and send it to you. Not like I'll be needing one anytime soon, I think.

For S&Gs I might try that one day. My initial little "tick" from spring contact has been gone for years.
