You can do it online now. I did it that way myself on July 14th. Though I did have to select which DMV office to have them delivered to. Guess we will see in the next few weeks whether I get them in the mail or if I have to go get them.

just stated what I had to do, ordered my plates online, at the end of the process, I was told my plates would be available for pick up and I would be notified when they were ready for pick up. I didn't go hang out at the DMV on a Friday afternoon for the fun of it.

It must depend on the individual then.

I called and I was told it take about 90 for their arrival and that mine would come in the mail because I didn't have a personalized plate, in other words I left the same plate number I had prior therefore I didn't get the option to chose a DMV location because they were coming to my address.

They told me that my plates are done, but not sure when they'll be at my local DMV. All they could give me was "sometime within the next month."

Mine came in after 26 days of ordering, I for some reason liked by license plate numbers before and they completely changed it :(

Already got mine, just saw this thread. I grew up in the 60s and always liked this plate. I had them sent to the local AAA office, much easier to pick up there.
