LED dome light bulb

    I installed an LED dome light bulb today. A frosted tubular festoon bulb with 3 LEDs did not emit enough light and a larger flat panel LED festoon did not fit into the recessed bulb opening.

    I ended up installing a 4 LED festoon square panel that I had left over from another car. No issues with fit and the brightness is ok.

    I swapped out the map light bulbs with LEDs as well. I went thru a couple of LED bulbs i had before I landed on an LED bulb that would not blind me when illuminated. Lens pops off easily with an awl.

    Wow that's a surprisingly small festoon space considering the size of the map light cover. Wonder if one of the universal size festoon bases with the larger board would fit for better LED output?

    6 LED festoon I had laying around did not fit very well (panel had to be installed at an angle and thus would not illuminate the cab in a uniform manner). Festoon space is smaller than a gen2 and the 2016 dome light mounting area is completely out of plastic.

    DE3175 festoon bulb. most interior bulbs recently on the Tacoma and 4runner are either the DE3175 or 194 series thru out the cab. bought mine for the 12 Tacoma and 14 4Runner from vleds.com

    could also try superbriteleds.com cheaper and less lumens than the vleds.

    vleds DE3175 is 170 lumens
    superbriteleds DE3175 is only 17 lumens but the are only $4 a bulb compared to the vleds $16 each. they do have a square, but it doesn't come in 5k.

    the vleds 194 in 5k @ 160 lumens is $18 a pair (flank format)
    the superbriteleds in 5k are around $4-5 each (round format)

    but I like the flanks that the vleds have compared to the rounds the superbriteleds have.

    I'd like to change out mine too, but have no clue as of what type of bulbs.
    Can someone please tell me if the 2016 interior lights are the same as 2015, as on Amazon they sell the whole interior lights package for 2015.

    Getting the front lamps out is a bitch.....I used a thin strip of Duct tape. Wrapped the lamp and pulled while squeezing the duct tape around the lamp. I could not get them out with my fingers alone.

    Just ordered the $16 festoon for the dome light from VLEDs

    Maps are same as 2015 (194/168). Dome in the 2016 is a 30mm festoon (2015 is a 43mm).
