its up in the air for me, i might have to run to california this weekend. But if i dont, i am hitting the lake for sure!
I am not sure which rig i will be taking yet................ you can take me off if needed for other people to get in on it. I plan on having both rigs done by then, but i might want to take the SR1 rhino....
    Not a bad idea.

Definitely would prefer to be in first group, this is a long drive, I want to be in camp relaxing with a cold beer ASAP! If I wasn't following someone who knew the route I would never get there. Lots of places to make a wrong turn and damned few signs.

Last March we had 14 guys saying they wanted to do the 4X4 route but in the morning there were only 5 trucks/Jeeps ready to roll, confirm the count a few days before the trip for accuracy.

We can definitely divide into two groups. I do have some concerns though.

Out of everyone wanting to go, myself, @The Fluffer and @Desert Drifter are the only people that have done the trail before (jump in if I've missed you). I'm going in with the first group (since I share @Desert Drifter's philosophy of "arrive early and relax"). So, assuming that all three of us with experience do arrive in Mammoth, that only leaves The Fluffy to navigate the trail for the second group. And he'd have to fill us in on how much of the route he can recall from earlier this year.

That being said, this is a 23 mile trail with a a shit-ton of twists and turns that WILL get you lost if you aren't paying attention/don't know the route, or end up on the trail after dark because of unanticipated circumstances.. And, wheeling this trail in the dark (which might happen to the later group) with a group that's never done it before is dangerous IMO. There are lots of narrow shelf road sections throughout the trail, a few dangerous obstacles that would be difficult to navigate without light..

For all the new guys wanting to try it out, keep in mind that, as stated in the trail description, there are risks. You DEFINITELY WILL scratch your rig (happens to everybody every time), and you MAY damage it (has happened before)

Well we aren't too sure if we need two groups yet but maybe we move it to 45 min difference?

    More may drop also.

45 mins is good, 2 hours would put the 2nd group in the dark possibly, depending on trail conditions. Lets split up into two groups for now and see what happens as we get closer.

As much as I'd prefer to go first group I'm willing to be flexible here. If the sun drops, I have the lights and experience to get me to my destination. Granted, I'm not familiar with route so I agree that (if separated) both groups should have a seasoned trail vet leading.

If I absolutely need to, I'll lead the second group. That also depends on the other experienced guy's confidence in the the trail route.
