Used Tacoma Costs?!

I'm reading the other thread on to expect to pay for a used tacoma. Rather than steal the fellow's thread again, I figured I'd post here...

How the heck are the costs so high! 26K for a 1 Year old TRD tacoma??? Don't the new ones list at 29k???

I'm curious as to why somebody wouldn't just spend the 2g more for a new model?

Are the prices I'm getting by building a model on Toyota's website accurate???

 

I looked into the cost of a used Tacoma, and that's why I bought new. I couldn't have saved more than a couple thousand unless I got something out of warranty, and then the interest rate on a used vehicle loan would have been quite unfavorable.

They hold their value very well, and there are people buying them.

 

it all just depends on what you're after.. do you want something modded out already or do you want to dump money into something? is it worth it to you to get something nobody else has owned? you half to decided what YOU really want in order to determine which route is best for you. that's part of the reason i joined here was to help me figure out which is the best route to take when it's time to get my taco..

 

X2 exactly why I bought new. 1-3k wasn't worth 20-30k miles to me.

 

That would be my thread, but I know what your saying. Most of the time once you buy a new car you lose 5K as soon as you leave the lot. And then about 10K after it's a year old. I was talking with a Toyota salesmen today and he said to be honest with you, I don't even understand it myself he says, these trucks are so expensive and hold value so well I can't get over it. Told me the price of the truck and it is what it is, no dealing because they know it will sell for that no problem.

I really would like to get a Tacoma but i've been looking at what else I could get used in that price range and there are some very tempting trucks.

I'm on the same boat. I owned a Silverado a few years ago, and had it totaled when I was rear-ended on the highway. I miss her a lot, and want another pickup truck. I figured a Tacoma would be nice now for a few years, and then I can upgrade if I want... But then I rode in a buddy's 2009 silverado this past weekend, and it reminded me so much of my old truck. Did a little researching, and right now a very nicely equipped silverado (5.3L extended cab, LT1 with leather, Bose stereo, and power everything) can be had for 33K with rebates... Factor in some haggling, and it's mine for the cost of a new Tacoma 4x4 access cab TRD Sport (so I think, with the online configurator at Toyota).


So I was curious to see if the online configuration tool for Toyota had accurate pricing.

The silverado is A LOT more truck for the same price, or just 1-2K more. But these high resale values make me wonder if it's a better idea to stick with the tacoma.

Anyways, all of this researching is giving me a migraine! I want to make a good decision, and I get the feeling the Toyota may be worth it... But it's very tempting to go with the silverado: A truck that comes with a lot more standard, gets similar gas mileage, and in my experience was very well built.

When I was looking for a used Tacoma, I thought the same thing. Why spend the money on a used truck when for a couple more $$ I could by a new one..

Well the right truck showed up for me "USED" if you call 4053 miles on it used? It was stock from the day it came off the lot and under $25000.. And "Certified" from the Stealership.

So now I'm using the $$ leftover for mods!!

As for the Chevy, it all depends what you are going to use your truck for. You can haul and tow more with the half ton. You will have more cabin and bed space also. I actually took a few measurements today and my Frontier bed is a few inches wider than the Tacoma.
I have driven a Chevy 1500, 2500, and a 3500 and must say I prefer the feel of a Nissan or Toyota much better. There is just something about the way Tacoma's look and drive.
