My sales and internet manager were so great I tipped them each $100. I am one of the apparent few who actually likes their Dealership and their practices. They are the only Toyota dealership withing 100+ miles.

No BS........ I told them what I wanted, what I wanted to pay and they made it happen. (I had a less expensive backup who could have snagged the same truck) But Loyalty is a good thing when I need the benefit of a doubt or a free loner.

Sales guy came in on his day off to deliver my truck. He knew I would have waited as I have other vehicles. But he called in the AM and delivered at noon. Deal took less than 20 minutes to close. He had ALL the paperwork ready for signatures. No games, no last minute bumps. In fact they errantly put their $1295 Mop and glo on the truck (tint, pin stripes,1 year ding ,1 year key replacement,Nitrogen,) I was ready to pay for tint...but it was already done..They told the F&I guy not to bother trying to sell me ESCs, Tire/wheel protection and whatever...If I buy a Toyota ESC , it will be from Toby at Shreveport Lexus. He is deep discounting them.

. I have been a long time customer of sales AND their service department. That may have something to do with it.

Just got a call from another semi-local dealer, after submitting my usaa info to them. The thing is, it was a used dept guy who called to tell me that they only had 1 new tacoma, which was sold, a waiting list of 5 or 6 customers, and were not expecting any additional new tacomas until june. That if i wanted a 2016, i would probably have to go to orlando (400 miles away). However, he had a really nice 2014 on the lot....

Maybe but it didn't strike me that way. If the sales person believes the information he is relaying to be true then if he is selling used he might have the only truck that the buyer might be interested in. Having said that, something doesn't sound right with the next available 2016 Tacoma being available in June???? But having one 2016 on the lot now with 5 or 6 buyers waiting sounds reasonable. And offering that information to the customer without stringing them along is being upfront. I don't think the dealership would risk losing a sale if there were other 2016 Tacomas on the lot or coming soon. Unless the used car sales person is telling a tale, in which case he has some big cohones.

I was doing the paperwork for my purchase when the guys brought my new truck to the front lot fresh from a washing. As I was doing my last signatures, I noticed some customers leaning on my new truck outside. All I said was 'too late, studs", then my dealer turned and saw what was going on and said "what the hell?" He hit the alarm on the truck, which startled the couple, and made them walk away. The other dealers outside were cracking up...I have to admit it got a smile out of me, too.

I got the price I wanted on my new truck order, with just a little less than I wanted for the trade (left about $500 on the table). I'm happy, now the waiting game. The salesman liked the bed liner on my 2012 o_O!

My annoyance with people who are too quick to reply before checking ALL the facts. Will not be working with Clay when it's time to purchase the 3rdGen.

Honestly, there doesn't seem to be anything the salesman "Clay" did wrong. He only notified you he was at the training and if you were still interested. Better than not reaching out at all right? Salesmen sell cars, that's what they do...they reach out to folks on their list that are interested. You can guarantee the other salesmen you'll choose over "Clay" does all the same sales tactics.

Salesman: "The Tacoma will not come with a stick anymore, like the Corolla. They don't make it. Also you don't need 4x4. Here, want to test drive this 4x2?"

    Sigh.

I stopped by a local dealership here in Eastern Pa. on Tuesday. Sales guy there told me the same thing. They were in Harrisburg most of the day for training on the 2016 Tacoma.

Not paying attention to detail. I sent my wish list in my initial email to the dealer; 2016 Tacoma, 4x4, DCSB TRD Off Road w/ 6-speed M/T in Silver (1st choice), MGM (2nd choice), and Super White (3rd choice).

It's little things that like that grinds my gears.

This is true. My wife spotted my limited in the back lot. The salesmen knew very little about it; it was used for training at a Moriarty, NM dealership. I told my dealer I was interested in it, and it was returned to Albuquerque a couple days after training when I purchased it.

When we bought our 2016 a few weeks back, the truck just unloaded off the truck. The sales guy takes us to the very back lot and we decide, yes, this is the one we want. Super White DCSB V6 SR5. Unfortunately there were no keys in the lock box. The sales man tells us he's going to find the keys and he'll be right back. We stood there for over a half and hour and no sign of our sales guy so I walk about a 1/4 mile back to the showroom floor looking for the dude, he's nowhere to be found. My wife who's still waiting at the truck sends me a text telling me the sales guy just came back to let her know he's still looking for the keys, but he comes out with a sandwich in his hand and still has a mouth full of food while he tells her this.

I show the text to Sales Manager on the floor. Mind you, we're good family friends with the Finance Manager, but he was at lunch while all this occurred. When I show the Sales Mgr the text, his face turned bright red and I looked at him and said, "This is completely unacceptable. We wait over 1/2 hour for our sales guy to find the keys and he comes back with food in his hand, WTF is going on around here". I let it be known inside that showroom floor I was fucking pissed. I've never seen so many Toyota employees move as fast as they did. It was like rats scurrying around. You had guys calling other guys to find the keys and everyone acting quickly. Come to find out, someone actually got fired over this whole ordeal. The prep guy that unloaded our truck took both sets of keys put them in his pocket and went to lunch. He was only supposed to be gone for 1/2 hour and he disappeared for over an 1 1/2 hours. He wasn't answering his cell or anything during this time. The Sale Mgr must have called this kid 20 times while we started the paperwork and he was livid.

Once our Finance friend came back he took over the whole transaction and we tell him everything that occurred. He was completely embarrassed by what happened and assured us heads would roll. 3 1/2 hours later we finally leave the lot in our brand new SR5. Let me tell you, I have friends that are in car sales and hear both sides of the story. You only hear about the bad experience with sales guys here, but you rarely hear about the dumbass customers and believe me they're a dime a dozen. I just can't get over the fact that sales guy came out with food in his mouth with sandwich in hand while we waited for over half an hour in a dark lot. I literally wanted to run back out there and knock his teeth in. Luckily, I have a calm wife to talk me off the ledge.

TL;DR Sales guy, Sandwich, Pissed, Fired, SR5=:burnrubber:

I have come to expect this. CRM systems eat customer email and quote requests.

The salesman may not have received your original email. It's like getting upset at the server when the cook messes up the meal. I agree sales guy should have paid attention but are you sure he had the original email?

I emailed about a dozen dealers from Vegas to Alb along the I-40 corridor. Nine replied back saying something to the tune of "thank you for the opportunity to earn your business. We will let you know when a 2016 Tacoma that matches your config shows up. Do you have a moment to call?"

You fellas are probably right though. I'll email the salespeople who didn't get my wish list back.

Trust me, they aren't getting the info. You'll just have to tell each person what you are looking for.
