i'd just get a cherry picker and make an exension arm for it, or a 2x4 frame that could be thrown together quickly, stored in sections. Pull the rack off outside the garage, then move it in.

Most new construction rocks over everything otherwise I'm not sure you need anything more than existing. Best to check with the local planning peeps.

My point was that an alteration to the garage door would need to conform to the guidelines for seismic lateral restraint . We have similar codes here on the coast of BC , and the area I live in has the highest seismic loading requirements in Canada

Any time you make any structural change, you would want to consult with the city/county planning department to find out what the code is currently is-that's all I'm suggesting.

All this warms my little heart, being a planner and all :D it'll be a building code issue more than likely, though, as mentioned. Planning likely won't have any input if the overall height or building envelope in general

Only reason I appear to be diving into the idea haphazardly is the fact that my business is installing maintaining and removing underground fuel tanks in SoCal. If you think permitting a garage project with the building department alone is too much work, try permitting with the building dept, city planning, OSHA, OSHPOD, county fire dept and federal inspector all required to approve ONE fucking fuel tank installation that you'll profit 1000 bucks on when it's finished.

    This Shit doesn't scare me.

I figure it'll take about 5k between a new garage door and permitting (if I can't snake around those requirements seeing as I'm only altering the opening, not the roof or any siesmic loading structure.

I just wanted to know if anyone has tried it. Too much work offloading the rtt by hand haha ;)

I was too tired to change it once I realized how it was orientated. It was bullshit having it over the tailgate this weekend I'll be changing it for sure

So ya wheeling with the tent in the rain and snow truck didn't even feel it. I was a little worried at first but it didn't change the characteristics of the trucks handling. Still gonna upgrade my leafs but only cause I feel like had I packed for a longer trip I'd be riding on the bumps a lot

With the tent that low you won't feel a difference, just when you get it above the cab you do

I think a lot of the "High CG" feeling that people think they get with RTTs is in their head. Sure, you may be adding ~ 200lb to the top of the cab level, but the truck weighs 4,000+ lbs.

The actual rack I'll be keeping will have the tent 2 inches higher. But still cabish height. Ya I was just curious if it was going to be different feeling. I was also concerned about the tent coming loose after some of the more skinny peddle obstacles but neither was the case

At low speed i dont tend to notice a difference between on or off. Like you said i think that is more in my head. But at high way speeds i notice it a lot more. I get a bit more body roll (no sway bar mind you) with it on than with out. Nothing to be totally worried about but I can tell its there doing the "moose test" vs it not being there.

I go by how much I need to ride my clutch on hills. I picked up some bumpers this weekend too. Just gotta strain the 4cyl some more lol
