I see a lot of 1st generation caps or shells whatever you want to call them on craigslist, and i am pretty sure they won't fit a second generation, but searching has found nothing.

    so will they fit?

Just went through this myself Yota.....Searched high and low for a used 2nd gen cap to no avail.Found a ton of really nice 1st gen ones however. They unfortunately are not compatible. The first gen caps are considerably shorter height wise. You could possibly get one attached but I doubt you'd be happy with the look.

    My $0.02 CAD :)

1 gen caps are dime a dozen, I see really nice ones for dirt cheap here on the cape.

They don't fit 2nd gens though.

Yes they do fit. I have a Leer cap from my '93 Toyota Pick-up (long box) on my '07 (long box) right now, and I moved the trifecta tuneau cover from my '07 to my '93. The box dimentions are the same, and height from the top of the box to the top of roof is very close to the same on both trucks. A 2nd gen cap would look better for sure, as they are faired in better around the box rails, and the rear window, but they do fit, mine looks even worse as it is not yet colour matched. I needed to get new clamps for it, they were for a Tundra and I needed to grind off part of the clamp to get it to fit but it does work.
