Being a non-perfect human myself and on the road with others who seem not perfect, I welcome the advance in technology if it can help prevent an injury or death. But, I understand what you're saying.

    Completely agree regarding Toyota Corporation.

Back in the 90's my 80K Tacoma developed a miss. Took it to Firestone dealer. They said it was a blown head gasket in cyclener six. So I took it to toyota thinking I would have a $2000 service bill. They took the truck in and told me Toyota had a couple years of bad gaskets on certain sixes and would change both head gaskets free, I had them change the Timing belt and water pump while they were in there. I had a friend take his in with 125K and they changed his. Dealers were sending out notices for this recall....Not a safety issue but a "reliability"issue and toyota ate the costs. I have never heard of a US automaker recalling cars for a $2000 reliability issue unless it was a safety concern.

From that day forward, with few exceptions I bought Toyotas. My wife had two RAVs but preferred the CRV after I was not able to negotitate a competitive lease on the new RAV 4.It will be tough getting her into a RAV now as she loves the comfort of the CRV. I have had a few brands of cars along the years, but always came back to a Tacoma.

I have no fear Toyota will step up on any growing pains the 16 may develop and will be watching any that go back to dealers for issues. No matter what they may be.

Some or I would say MOST people who buy Tacoma's ,even 4x4s will never go off road and they (we) want a street truck that provides the creature comforts of a luxury car. Ford has their Platinum. Tacoma's are hardly luxury vehicles but I for one appreciate the luxury bits and pieces...and/or "fluff" and are willing to pay up for it

While I'm not "afraid" of the new Tacoma's I don't believe that Toyota is guaranteed to produce a perfect truck the first model year. I believe if the truck is dangerous or unreliably they will make good and fix it. That doesn't mean that they will take care of anything on the first years truck that will be changed in future years to make the trucks better or easier to live with.

My first Tacoma was a 98 I purchased new and drove for 169,000 miles . I really liked that truck. My next Tacoma was a 05 and I only kept if for 2 years. I had axle wrap, the tick, rev hang and clutch pedal issues among other thing that were fixed or at-least changed to become less annoying if in latter model years.

So I'm watching and hopping for the best with the 16s

I'm afraid of that butt ugly grille and front bumper and hood skewp.
I'm afraid of the general fat ass the Tacoma has become. It's really a 3rd generation T100 with Tacoma badging for name recognition and marketing and sales. (Let's face it, the first gen T100 was ahead of its time as a midsize but ultimately failed as a wannabe fullsize.)
I'm afraid of the rediculous body lines and angles.
I'm afraid of the pussification of trucks in this country.
I'm afraid that Toyota and Lexus across the board are incompetent when it comes to designing their new vehicles for the American market. They are all so fucking ugly and expensive!
I'm not afraid to tell it like it is. Fuck.

Luxury Vehicle? I wouldn't classify a Tacoma a "Luxury Vehicle". They don't even have power seats!

I'm afraid you are in the wrong area of the forum.......Few here agree with your "tell it like it is" opinion. Perhaps you will make more friends and influence people in the Gen 2 forum??

I'd be more inclined to buy a Honda or a Ridgeline at this point. I can tell Toyota's QA and QC is right on par with that of GM at this point. Experiencing some issues I have had with my own truck is starting to make me doubt future Toyota builds and the legendary quality I once knew them for. Seeing that even some of the things they use on the trucks are strinkingly familiar in appearance to GM, I'd rather look for a product that still has QA and QC left in it.

Agreed. I don't get why it's overall bigger and the front-end is the size of a Ram, but the back-end is stil the old Tacoma....something is just not right with the aesthetic design...proportion is outta whack.

lmao, i agree with most of what you say....but this is the first mis-design in opinion....they rushed the design cause of the GM twins and botched it.....im telling you, it's not the big grill, it's the out of proportion front-end, it doesn't match the back-end....if you stuck this grill on a 2nd gen it would look cool....its the massive fullsize front end and the small truck backend

as for price...everything is f'n expenisve

You say 3rd gen Taco is bigger, even though it uses the same cab and basically the same frame? It's a couple of inches longer based on what I read (new crash regs and such).

By the time you replace your 2nd gen, the Tundra would have probably grown a bit, too. Toyota may keep the weight the same or lighter, through the use of aluminum or ultra-high strength steel, but they will never reduce the footprint of any model with a redesign, for two reasons:

    1. In surveys, focus groups and magazine reviews, everyone wants more interior room.
    2. CAFE limits are calculated based on footprint (wheelbase, track) - the bigger the vehicle, the thirstier it's allowed to be.

If specs on Edmunds are accurate: 4.2" longer, 2.2" wider, 4.9" taller.
    2nd Gen was 5.2" longer, 5.7" wider, 2.2 taller than 1st Gen

The extra 4" length means it won't fit (same model AC 3rd Gen) in my garage by 2".

EDIT: And my personal opinion is it looks like a mid-size truck trying to be a full-size truck by the way it bulges and ripples. That's just my impression of it. I got nothing against those that like that look, it just doesn't appeal to me personally.

^The cab, frame, and suspension are the same, so width and height should not change, unless Edmunds is counting the sharkfin antenna. Length growth I can believe.
