Thank you! this ^^^, holy crap some of you guys get uber defensive on here and quick to attack (mostly the newbies).

 

Too many Corporate style dealers. Bend Oregon's small town dealer was bought out by a much bigger fish, Kendall. Since then If I inquire about anything; they are trying to sell me a new truck. It's bull$hit.

 

A trade offer is not real unless they are willing to write a check to buy your vehicle right then and there. When I get an inflated "trade"number I always say "That's great, write me a check. When it clears, I 'll come back and look at a replacement"

Dealers like to buy vehicles from private owners and bypass the auction expenses. A real deal offer is the one they will write a check for. Dealers need good used vehicles.

When I went to trade my 15 Sport the dealer offered $26K (About 4500 less than I paid) They would have cut a check for it right then and there.Instead I took their numer added $2500 and sold it for $27900. Then I could negotiate the new vehicle separately.

Biggest issue with buyers is they believe their trade is worth more than KBB low good book. The dealer will never pay over that in actual cash value. They may indicate it but the money is coming from somewhere to over allow on a trade.

 

All dealers prefer to do this. But no matter how low the first, advertised offer is, most customers still want a "deal" and keep pushing for more. So even if a dealer is all in on a deal to get rid of a vehicle asap, customers will still think they are being ripped off unless the salesman goes back to the manager 4 times to get the price lowered. If it can't/doesn't happen, the customer walks away thinking the dealer tried to screw them. This is exactly why most dealers don't offer their "best" deal right away. No matter how good their first offer is, the customer almost never accepts until after more rounds of negotiation. Trust me... it is the customer, not the dealer that wants more negotiation to happen.

 

Your not kidding... incrementalism at its finest, along with a sprinkle of ideological subversion by the communists... errr, i mean liberals.

 

That's why you go in with a number. Either wait until they meet it or give it to them up front. People need to research things more

Bingo...One cannot be so emotionally involved that they are weak and accept MSRP as the final offer. Go in with a fair offer and many dealerships will accept it. Trying to buy the 2016 Tacoma at invoice will frustrate most buyers. There will always be a dealer who will accept $500-$1000 over Invoice.

 

And yet GST region is getting at least $500 factory to buyer incentives on the 2016s....already.

 

Lol as a former salesman I always loved people wasting my time to. Wouldn't give them squat for trade and would show them sticker so I could move on to an actual buyer. Don't get paid by the hour.

 

Thats because they added too many options to their builds.

 

Or less with something like the Costco auto buying program.

 

Exactly. I always loved how customers complain about everything under the sun, most of which was their own fault in the car buying process. Yet no one mentions all the tire kickers wasting the salesman's time preventing him from actually being able to tend to past or potential future customers and their legitimate needs.

A few days ago at Arlington Toyota (VA) I started talking to a sales guy while he showed me an OR DC. He said of I wanted more power I could add a supercharger.... On a 2016! SMH.

 

I received the same bullshit at my local dealer where i bought my truck June of last yr. They offered me $17,875 for my 2014 Off Road so I asked the sales manager if he was born at night he said no and I said either was I. Then I also said I will not be back for any service at this dealership as I walked out.

 

What is the book trade in value?

 

At minimum $10,000 more than they offered me.....

You had a nada book with you I hope. Dealers always offer low. What's the worst you can say. No. Sellers and buyers want the same thing. What's best for them. If you don't ask you'll never know.
