I don't get why yours is so low. My commute is about the same mileage with about 60/40 highway and I'm getting nearly 24-25 mpg

2nd day taking the new truck to work. Got 24.5 yesterday morning and took a pic for this mornings trip. 60/40 highway miles to city driving posted speed with no red light to red light gas mash. image.jpg

I'm at about 500ft elevation and got 22 mpg on my 1st tank. Avg higher thus far on my 2nd tank.

Just curious, but has anyone done the "old school" tank average method to check your overall MPG on these new trucks? I mean, fill the tank, drive until the low fuel light comes on, refill tank, divide number of miles driven on that tank by gallons required to fill it. I just wonder how it compares to what the computer is calculating and displaying?

Seems pretty obvious by his posts. He likes to drive fast and accelerate hard. Slow to him is probably closer to normal for most.

I guess so. I like to try different driving styles just to see if anything changes. Current tank looks like I'm going to avg over 23. Next tank I plan on driving with ETC on for whole tank just to see.

I filled up and did the calculation for the first tank at 23.56mpg for 344 miles of highway with two passes. The computer said 22.8 overall and 25.6 for the last section (60 miles with no passes). Cruising around the mountains today between 9-10,000' and the computer was showing 20.5 including 50 miles of 2-lane and 20 miles of FS road.20151011_114015.jpg

I kept it under 75, and mostly under 70. These were two-lane roads across the state so I passed a few vehicles but kept the revs under 5k on passing. So, not hyper-mile style, but not as robustly as i plan to drive once its broken in.

    Yes, its a manual
I grew up driving antiques and high performance rigs, so I'm still a little anal about break-in. Drove a '30 Model A for 27 years and a very special 65 Mustang convertible for several years as my daily dry weather cars. I'm aware that today's quality engines are built to much closer tolerances, but you can still feel them loosen up and rev more easily, so it still seem advantageous to keep revs and temps down initially.

The manual does state a break-in period. Whether you follow it or not is up to the owner and whether it matters or not is debatable but, to state there is no break-in required would not be correct if it indicates one in the manual.

I drove from Kentucky to Virginia this weekend averaging about 80-85 mph and driving like an ass because the m/t is just too much fun. 21.3 mpg as I pulled into town. I get anywhere between 15-17 in down but I drive more aggressive than I should to be saving mpg

I was going to say the same thing. Looks like he probably drives like a 16 year old non stop and that would explain it. Racing your buddy to work is not going to yield the best results.

I apologize. Not trying to be condescending. Just stating that it sounds like your driving habits are exactly why you are yielding a 15-17 MPG gallon that's all.

first tank computer said 14.1 But with the lift and tires I know thats way off. Not really happy with the pro comp tires as they make a ton of noise. That cant be good for the mpg. Gonna go back to BFG A/T KO2s. Really need to do a road trip to figure it out. DBL cab LB 4x4 sr520151009_121154.jpg
