First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Nope. 90k on my 07 and running strong. I did a trans flush at 60k since I tow regularly , and have a SC, and have 1000+ lbs of uparmored components. From what I hear it's a heay duty long lasting transmission also uses in some V8 models. So, I think you just drew the short straw.

What makes you think the transmissions blown? Maybe give us a little more information and someone can tell you what sort of specific transmissions failure you have.

Did you do the drain and fill, or the full flush?

Full flush, done by dealer. Super expensive - as I recall it was around $250. But I'm hoping doing them every 60k will extend the life of my transmission. We will see..

Little things can make you feel like the transmission blew, but end up being minor fixes - need more info.

when i was driving home from work last night when i was getting on the freeway i heard and felt a large "clunk".... the truck lost power and i pulled to the shoulder, i tried every gear and nothing would happen until i let up and it would slightly surge. reverse on the other hand did work though.

@gearcruncher Might know exactly what's going on but, yes, that does sound like a major failure.

This would be the first failure of a tacoma tranny I've heard of.

First one I've heard of too. Mine's got 158k on it and shifts perfect. I don't know the previous trans service history before 120k when I got it but i've done 2 "spill and fill" transmission fluid services since i've had it. But it has a pretty easy life too.

Any chance it's the rear diff, not the tranny? the gears could have sheared such that in reverse they get enough bite.

It is a stock engine so there is no way it sheared the gears in the rear end
