I really like your drawer system. I'm getting my Leer 100RCC this weekend and then will construct the bed system to have the ARB fridge, one drawer, and 4 x 7 gallon water tanks (I have a shower, because I'm a pro glamper). I may borrow your design a little.

Thanks. I am real happy with the way they came out.

I have a shower, too. I just use Scepter 5 gallon water cans instead of a built-in tank.

Hey TW Guys... I have a huge dilemma. I want to start getting into Overlanding with my wife/ friends, and was dead set on a 16',until i found they didn't offer a 6MT in a TRD OR AC. So My choices are, a used Gen 2, or a 16' TRD OR DCSB 6MT....

The issue I have is that I really want to just throw a camper shell on the back, and sleep in it, and make it low key, low weight, efficent, reduce drag on highway/driving in general....

I found some awesome expamles on this thread, and I can't seem to fathom getting a RTT, since its an eye sore, extra weight, more money I dont need to spend when I have a tent for the wife and I.

I love the ability if I am driving on the road, get tired near a town, I can hop in the back of my Tacoma 6' Bed with a shell and just fall asleep with no one realizing I am camping out in a parking lot, etc, and there is virtually no set-up.

In every way I want to get the new 16' DCSB but what I described above is my major hold up! :(

Any ideas or help would be appreciated. I know a lot of you have experience and think outside the box.

Yea. I'm not settling for an automatic. I'll buy a used Gen 2, TRD OR AC 6MT. Until Tacoma brings the Gen 3 in that trim, that'll be what I do very soon.

You bring up solid points no doubt. There's something fun about rowing gears, downshifting, shifting when you want, letting out the clutch and just getting right off the line.

I'm a proficient driver with a MT, and I've only owned a MT in all my vehicles over 12 years. To me, an Auto is boring to drive. I've also talked with numerous gen 2 owners who have a 6MT and they say there's nothing wrong with them... they aren't going to be super slick like a car, it's a truck, and I'm fine with that.

On the other hand, my wife hates MT, and it would be a bad scenario if I got hurt and couldn't drive. That is one solid point you bring.

How's that feathering the clutch and e-brake work again?

While its not a huge point, there is more maintenance with the MT considering clutch swaps since they can get burned up on obstacles. But on the other side of it the AT can get into higher temps and can take some more effort on that end.

I dont understand why so many people hate on the Manual Transmissions? Is it because they aren't proficient and just lazy? Anyone who enjoys driving can attest to the fun that can be had in the MT over the slushbox. I dont plan on doing any rock crawling, also with ATRAC and a Rear Locker, you can get to so many damn places without ruining your clutch, or am I wrong?

I dont think anyone is hating on them. The auto can be plenty of fun too though. Slapping it between 2 and 3 when needed. Simple and fun. And i love manuals too.

You brought up a good point about your wife hating MT and what if you get hurt. Stick with AT for those two purposes. Wife can then be DD when ever you want;).

You can get a manual transmission in the 2016 AC OR in Canada. I think it's pretty ridiculous that the states and Canada have different trims and configurations available.

Just get a used 2012+ (because they look the best :p), and then spend the extra money saved on parts, gear, and best of all trips.

I fail to see how a manual transmission is any benefit at all, performance, off-road or otherwise. The AT in the Tacoma is incredibly reliable.

Coming from a MT before this taco (AT), I can attest to the DD. Nice to have the backup when you leave the house thinking you'll have just one.... There is never just one.
