I was looking at buying a 2016 Tacoma TRD OR but after looking at them I decided to go for the 2nd gen and found a salvage 2013 TRD OR DC. The frame is straight and it was hit in the front right. I think the fender and headlight were the only things replaced.

The truck has a lift on it and it appears to be just a spacer lift in the front. Can anyone identify what lift it has? I am not familiar with Tacoma lifts as I have always had Jeeps. It seems like the upper control arm is pretty close to the tire and when I am on the freeway and turning left I hear a slight rubbing sound. Do I need to get a different set of upper control arms with the spacer lift? I am wondering if the ball joint could be shot too from the wreck.Tacoma1.jpg Susp1.jpg Susp2.jpg

Also what sites do you guys recommend for stock parts and also for aftermarket off-road parts?

Also does anyone know where you can get the roof rack cross member only? I can only find the entire roof rack assembly. Looking for a good site with OEM and aftermarket parts for Tacomas.

I thought the roofrack cross bars are actually a part of the rack and pivot out. The position they're in right now they look like side rails, but in fact they pivot out.

Yeah you are right about the roof rack. It is a pretty slick design! So the lift is a in-coil spacer lift? Would you recommend swapping this out for a better lift?

The lift you have will provide a harsher ride up front than a stock suspension or a different kind of lift. If you want to have the front leveled you could either leave it and deal with the harsh ride (this won't work well offroad) or go with something like a 5100 or 6112 from Billstein...

If you want to just overhaul the old shocks for newer ones you could easily get by with 5100s all around and a slight lift up front by setting the 5100s on the 1st or second setting.

I am new to the coil pack so I may be missing something but how will I get lift with using the stock springs and just a new shock? If anything won't it just be pre-compressing the spring similar to the spacer? I am used to dealing with leaf springs on the older Jeeps for wheeling so just not familiar with this setup yet.

Looks more like a top load spacer to me. No pre-load.

The spacer he has shouldn't really affect the ride at all. It's not pre-loading or altering the spring rate at all, unlike the 5100 or 6112 will do. His alignment at that height will have the most impact on the way it drives with those stock UCA's.

Yeah it was salvage. Both passenger doors were replaced too. So for the suspension with the spacers should I get aftermarket upper control arms in order to get proper alignment? Haven't had the alignment checked yet but don't want to pay for it twice if I need UCAs with the spacers.

My thoughts exactly. Salvage usually means the repair cost more than something like 80% of the vehicle value, so the insurance company totals it as a loss and auctions the truck. A repair shop fixes the damage and rebrands the title as salvage. So if your trucks value was $20k, it had $16k in damage.

yep..as stated in my original post it was salvage .totally understand what that means and have had two salvage vehicles already. frame is straight and no issues/vibrations on the road. one tire is rubbing when turning left so getting it aligned and aftermarket upper control arms.

I think they were commenting on the idea that it's a salvage title and you say the fender and headlight were the only items replaced. Seems silly to salvage a ~$20k truck over a couple hundred bucks in parts. :notsure:

Yeah I see now....I was told originally thats all that was replaced and that the door was "repaired". I assumed there was more damage than that but everything was straight so went ahead and got it. I have to get receipts for CHP inspection and the seller said he had receipts for the doors too as they had to be replaced so that makes more sense towards salvage. They said airbags weren't deployed but I will need to check to make sure they are all intact.

Yep will definitely wait after the UCAs are installed for the alignment. Just debating if I want to keep the spacers or not. If I keep them I would like to raise the back about an inch or so to make it look a little more level.

I'd either get smaller spacers or a different lift. 3" lift spacers are sketchy especially for off-roading. Your shock is currently being used as the bump stop for your up travel :boom:

Install a spacer to lower the bump stops if you're going to keep the lift spacers.

I agree....in the Jeeps I have built I would never uses spacers. I will look into a different lift setup all around. Not looking for a lot but I don't want the tires rubbing when off-road.

For one thing, you're missing a boot on the upper ball joint in the second pic!!

I noticed that as well. I jacked it up and the ball joint is fine now but regardless am ordering new UCAs. Any suggestions on a decent lift kit?
