I'm going to check with a different stealership. I just recently bought my tacoma and called into one of the local stealerships asking about recall's etc. and they blew through the frame check like it was already a done deal.

Thanks Fitz! The first photo, the front of the frame that's welded to the cross section, there is a hole in yours, mine is also like that. Is that also a defect?

This is the spot. If you have a hole there, you should be getting a new frame.

Mine failed in the spot shown in the second pic, right next to the rear end of the cat. You can see it in my post, #593, here's the link.

You don't need a hole......I never had a hole in mine.

My frame was in pretty good condition. There was a 'soft spot' there at the cat.

The dealership poked a hole thru it and called it a FAIL.

Are these spots both on the inside of the frame by the cats?

Now that I know where to look.. tomorrow I'll crawl around under mine and check the frame. But, I'm curious.. has anyone in the lower states had this problem? i.e. MS, AL, FL, LA, TX... had the frame rust issue? or is mainly the northern part with all the salt on the roads in the wintertime?

Yes....drivers side.... inside of frame rail just forward of the door. You'll see it...just crawl under there.

I'm in Hawaii. None of my other vehicles rusted like my Tacoma.

I got my Tacoma back from a frame replacement about two months ago. It drives like a brand new truck now. Replaced leaf springs and all new hardware underneath. Hope to get another 15 years out of it.

Checked mine this morning. Mainly around the cat's on both sides. All I found on mine was a little bit of surface rust on the the bottom part of the frame, driver side. It scratched off. so.. this coming weekend I'm going to get wire brush to it and get the rest of it off and go over it with rustoleum paint. It's the best I can do for now. I don't have any of that POR 15 you guys mentioned.

    I don't suppose they cover 2nd and 3rd owners? :D

I noticed that my gas tank skid plate has a fair amount of rust on it. I haven't checked the frame yet.
