I know the reason for the lack luster acceleration of the Taco. Toyota just got freak'n tired of all the requests for a diesel so rather then completely engineer one for the truck, they are giving everyone the next best thing; the acceleration of a diesel. As soon as owners stop asking for a diesel, they will unveil the old motor which goes 0 to 60 in 7.5 seconds...and things won't seem quite so bad. Next time I pull up next to a new Taco with my 2 nd gen, I won't feel quite so intimidated.....but he will.:boink:
    All in fun....right ?

I like it...would I like a new 2016.. Bet your sweet ass. I just have to keep convincing myself....that's OK, just wait ten years till the price comes down. The gen one owners said that to us years ago. They taught me well......that denial is not a river.

Tacoma: Bone stock down to the air filter....for now..... Supra: Too much to list....
I can confirm this, having driven the 2015 and 2016 back to back recently. Toyota needs to go back to the drawing board. Truck owners, especially American truck owners, expect lots of torque. Especially for trucks that aren't exactly cheap or lightweight! I predict they will increase the cubes on the Gen 3 Tacoma before long in response to complaints....

If I could have my way, I'd want the Tacoma to have a 4.0 to 4.4 L V-8 similar to the one BMW makes with 330 HP and better mileage than the sluggish new 3.5L in the Tacoma.

Or, re calibrate or add an optional turbo to a 2.7... Ford gets 325 hp and gobs of tprque from a motor that has the same mileage.
A turbo on a 2.7 would more then compete with the 4.0..., QDR ? Wtf knows ?

Ah...that's a full size Duramax with significantly more HP. ( 360 and over 500 lb feet of torque) A friend has one too and it scoots. My neighbor has one in his plow truck...it scoots. But each are much larger.

They are not 4 cylinders with 180 hp.. 180 hp is not 305 hp as the speed pucks up. In a Colorado, all that torque works. But maintain speed by up shift....the Colorado diesel will not equal acceleration times of the 305 hp as the speed climbs.i think we are talking about a small 4 cylinder disel vs over 6 L Duramax
Cubes matter....even with a diesel. And Toyota would follow suit and not put a 6L diesel in a Taco...their 3L D is the HiLux motor of choice and it's acceleration times do not equal larger gas motors available....namely, the 4.0L

It will take a huge swing in sales away from Toyota to trucks that offer them.

Let me be more explicit. It will take a huge swing in sales from Toyota into the diesel offers by GM. If the sales in Colorado skyrockets while the 3 G plummets, you have a little cause/ effect going on. It's about th money. We know it will cost a lot for either company to produce it. It we get proof that it sells with GM being the lab rat, of course they will. That is why the Tundra diesel comes out.....to compete.

I have a lays though that mid size diesels are not financially worth producing. But, if enough still buy these cars, it becomes a market. It won't be me though.

You get no argument from me. Unless you like to spend lots of money to save a little fuel, you had better be a working man with a diesel or it just doesn't pay. The exception is, Tacos are life style trucks. I just can't think of any life style that means you spend a ton of money to bring up the rear. The Duramax is awesomely smooth...but it breaks your heart to see a GM Duramax rust out in seven years with only 100k on the odometer. A friend has one exactly doing that....his next won't be an expensive diesel.

Toyota makes a ton of diesel motors and the swap over from th HiLux is no big deal. They could even opt for a Cummins sub contract like they are considering for the Tundra. But heck....$3500 plus more dollars for a truck that tows the same or similar and goes slower....I keep a Truck till it's about ten years old. The Toyota motors at about 150k are just about broken in and purring like a top....why ? ( diesel )

All bolt ons + tuning solution. Capable of running high 13's.
    Not true
You can have a brand new Crew Cab F150 - 2.7lt Ecoboost for mid to low 30K and be pretty fast. Add a tune to the mix and play with the big boys.
