You could call Austin at Superior Off Road and see what he would charge, I wouldn't personally take my truck back there though. May help with gauging what a fair price is though.

Oh man this is good. So when discount tire put on my wheels they ended up snapping a stud. They torqued it to factory recommended specs so they did nothing wrong (that I know of) . So I took it to Toyota to have the faulty stud replaced under warranty. They refused to do it because they think it's discount tires fault. I called discount tire and they say they won't fix it because they did nothing wrong. I gave the name and number of the guy from Toyota and they are talking to them directly now to figure out who is going to fix my stud. I wish I could listen in.

 

Just remember that they are welding areas in the middle of your frame, much better to pay twice as much for someone who knows what they are doing. Just my two cents, hate to see someone burn too deep/hot on a frame.

 

Can always look at craigslist. I know it sounds like a bad idea but around me a lot of welders i work with will post up and take on small jobs like that on the side. The guy i work with who did mine does that and only charges 40 bucks for sliders. Just ask if they are a welder by profession or just a home DIYer guy

 

I'd also make sure that they know what they're doing. When I was welding the sliders to my frame I learned that you aren't supposed to go horizontal or vertical with the welds. That can fatigue the frame.

Yeah, at least that's what my welding buddy told me. When we put the frame plates on the frame for the tubes to weld to, we did them in a diamond shape, not square with the frame.

 

Well you can't go diagonal, so how are you supposed to weld them on??

 

I guess the words I meant to use were parallel or perpendicular? Geometry wasn't my favorite, but I passed it in school.

I think I was correct with the horizontal and vertical terminology.

 

Post a picture of your frame so we can see how he welded them on? I'm no welding expert but I'm pretty sure that's the only way to do it. Unless you have really weird shaped frame plates?

Yeah I'm confused too. The plates on the sliders that get welded to the frame have all 90' angles, so that means all horizontal and vertical welds.

Unless I have the guy do curly q's or something.

 

I think he made the sliders himself but even then it would be a lot easier to make square frame plates than some other shape.

 

Yeah my buddy and I built them, but instead of mounting the plate in a square shape we turned it 45° so it was a diamond shape on the end of the tube. Since yours came prefab'd, it is what is is.

I guess the main point is, if you must weld vertical or horizontal, to use just enough heat to penetrate the weld and not too much heat where you could overheat the frame and cause fatigue or stress.

Also, watch out for the fuel lines behind the frame on the driver's side!
