I finally got to go up-country with my new 2015 Tacoma I got in July and discovered a few unexpected issues.

It had just over 2500 km on it when I left and I found that whenever I backed up, something I hardly ever had to do in town, it left a burning clutch or brake smell in the air. You do a lot of backing up when you find yourself at a dead end narrow logging road.

The backing up smell quit at around 3100 km. Is that normal?

    It worried me a bit.

I had a similar smell when my truck was new , not necessarily in reverse though , I found that there was excess grease from the driveshaft U joint near the front being flung onto the exhaust shield and burning

Might want to check that as a possibility

I sent an email to the Toyota service people I go to. It's Canadian Thanksgiving today so they are not in until tomorrow.

You are smelling it in reverse probably just because the air is crossing the cabin more than it would during short reverses and never when driving forward. It's probably always there. I changed out my exhaust to a new one, and the burning of grease inside of the catbacks lasted just for a few hundred miles or so though.

    Oh yeah,

I noticed that. I was trying to reverse out of a deep rutted road on Friday and it stalled. The smell though, was the same odor as when I accidently drove for a few seconds with the park brake on.
