I carry 2 Golden's, they like to hang out the sides of the bed, didn't want the restrictions so they couldn't stand on the wheel wells.

Future Proof, wanted a low profile rack, the aggressive angles gives me lot more surface area for expansion of mounting options. I have area to add roto packs, or plates to give lots of room for mounting of ish. If I went with the short arms up the sides wouldn't have the area for that.

The design I started with, that @JeepAndrew perfected

Thats what Im doing with my risers on my bed bars. Having them angled in more to give more area for mounting accessories.

Keep in mind that the center to center measurement on the tent mounting rails is 32", so you'll have to keep the top width over that to mount the tent.

well since I'm doing bed bars, the width shouldnt be an issue, unless I'm confusing what you're saying.

It depends on what your top width measurement is.

ahh right, right.. I was thinking the of the other width. so at a minimum the cross bars need to be 32".

do you happen to know the width of the mount rail itself under the RTT? The mounts I'm making are 1.5" x 1.5"

They are a slid system so they can be anything you want, of you talking about the bolt hole pattern width. The only critical dimensions is to have either 32" wide or 32" long. My top width, tho it says 32" on the model, we went with 29" but the rack is the length of the bed at 52". We trimmed the RTT rails and mounted then the short width over going with the traditional long width.

I know what your asking now, when I get a chance ill grab it tonight, less someone beats me to it. You want the width of the rail itself right or the slide in the channel that holds the bolt?
