Kinda why I'm discussing nothing with my dealer on the phone, all conversations
are in emails so there's no question as to what was said or promised.

As a dealer, and if you came to my store I would tell you that an extended warranty will do its job and replace any thing covered under it coverage terms but if Toyota finds or believes the item broke or malfuctioned due to custom modifations that it will NOT be covered. It does NOT void warranty.

If it voided warranty, that means dealers would never do pre-loads on our instock units.

It's going to vary dealer to dealer. Like Chris mentioned, if they can relate any existing issues to whatever lift or modification then they likely wont touch it.

I've ran 3'' coilovers and an AAL lift in both my 2011 and 2015, my 2011 had a front dif leak on passenger side, no questions asked replaced by dealer and given a free rental, I was at 52k too on the odometer. lol.

Good call out, it also depends on the relationship you have with the dealer. There are so many ways to get around things at a dealer. If you are a repeat customer and take advantage of the free maintenance that comes with a Toyota and use that time to develop a good relationship with an advisor, 90% of the time if something comes up that needs fixed and is questionable, they are going to do their best to take care of you instead of a person that the advisor has never seen before at the dealership and then wants this items fixed. naturally, who would you feel more inclined to help ?

Yep and Toyota will reimburse them for the claim and the relationship they build I will in turn shop them first when I do need a new truck. And that whole freedman act or whatever where they would have to prove that the lift cause the dif leak, which dirt can cause a dif seal to leak.

They can void your warranty only if they can prove your mods were responsible for the defective part. Of course the warranty will not cover your aftermarket parts.

Still worth checking if the dealership is going to try and fight you about it before you do anything... if they do I would find a new dealership...

EDIT: @tubbsisland beat me to it

Correction, They will void the warranty on the "warranted item" not the entire warranty.

Right, but in most cases the "warrantied item" will be replaced with aftermarket stuff so it's no longer in question.

To elaborate, they cannot void the warranty on the entire suspension or any part of it except what you replaced, unless they can prove that whatever you put in there caused the failure. In which case, they can deny service on that particular failure.

Saw a Tahoe (maybe suburban who knows) the other day with 34's. I only knew how big they were because the thing had a big sign on it with something about how much they loved their 34s.

It looked like a circus car. I had no idea rims could be gotten in multiple feet diameter. Lit on fire is being kind.

3" ToyTec Lift kit with ultra Goliath wheels and general grabber tires for now.
I had a kind talk with Toyota, ToyTec, Rough Country and pro comp. anything up to 3" lift will still be covered under Toyota warranty. Anything over 3" requires modifications to be made and therefor voids the warranty. However, pro comp and rough country told me they will cover anything on warranty that isn't covered due to lift kit. I just bought a 16 DCSB TRD SPORT. I wanted to go 6" rough country, so I got all these questions answered first. I have a 3" ToyTec lift going on in the next couple days. I'm using my wheels and tires from my 11 for now. Then when I need new tires I'm gonna install the 6" lift kit and get bigger tires. I hope this helps with any confusion. You can call any of these companies directly and see for yourself.

Sure thing. I was always curious about voiding the warranty and this is my first brand new Tacoma, and I can't go without some sort of lift. Cheap spacer lift for now till I can afford to do 6" lift and bigger tires.
