Rust in Engine Bay

Is anyone else dealing with a small amount of rust in the engine bay?

I noticed some rust on the drivers side under the battery. Anyone else have this issue? Also, is this something I should have fixed and if so, how do I fix it?

If you're concerned about the rust spreading, grind what you can off. Not sure that a grinder will fit very well in that location, so I'd try a dremel or rotary tool that could perform in the same manner. After grinding it off I would then apply some paint that specializes in rust prevention. Many brands that perform exceptionally well, so go to a hardware store and look around. (Just stay away from dirt cheap products that will just flake off) Prep the surface before applying the paint by pouring some rubbing alchol on the surface. (Water would work, but alchol lessens the chance of shorting out some electronics) Then apply two to three coats of the paint and let it dry for an hour or so! If the spot is just surface rust, apply some WD-40 and scrub away. If I were you, I would spray some WD-40 on there first and note the results. Least you wouldn't have to buy a bunch of supplies if it's minimal rust.

 

That works. I'd recommend getting an actual paint related surface cleaner though, as rubbing alcohol leaves a residue that paint may not like.
