So I recently purchased my dream vehicle. I have always wanted a DC Tacoma for most of my life. I was previously an owner of a '93 Landcruiser and before that a '72 FJ55. All my brothers are still in the Landcruiser (two other FJ80's and a FJ60) family but I finally made the switch to the Tacoma.

I recently purchased a '14 with apprx. 8k miles on it. 6spd manual 4x4. I think it is the s5 version? Can't remember off the top of my head.

But I have been lurking on Tacoma World for about the last month or so. Finally signed up today. Have a lot of plans and dreams on what to do with it in the future.

But my first question is this. It came with the Oval Tube Steps and I just really don't like them. They are too low for me to even use so they are really inconvenient to step over when getting into my vehicle. Now my kids find them useful but they can manage without them.

In searching other threads most there was kind of two suggestions. Sell them right away while they are still in good condition. Put the money towards sliders (which I do eventually want to get). I do like the look of the truck without them.

The other suggestion was keep them until you get sliders because they can protect your truck from dings on the side from people parking too close and opening their doors into your truck.

What do you guys think? Seems like the general estimate for selling them would be around 150-200 bucks.

But I also liked someone's recommendation of offering to trade them towards some used sliders if anyone out there has some. Anyone?

Anyways, here is picture our recent drive through Bulldog Canyon this last sunday.

Also, what is the best avenue for selling the steps if I decide to go that route? Craigslist?

Ok, so like I mentioned I am newbie. Although I have had Land cruisers in the past I was never much of a grease head.

So my next question. Is how to do find out if my truck is stock on the lift and shocks? I have been trying to decide what I would like to do. I think I may stay with the 265/70/16 but may want a small lift. Or just a level kit. Still trying to figure all this stuff out. Spent a lot time reading posts on here. But it can get confusing because a lot of people have different opinions and ideas.

Welcome! Looks like your truck is stock height to me. Just to be sure, look in there at the coilovers and see if there's a spacer, also check under the leaf springs for a block or an extra leaf...I doubt you'll find anything.

You'll need to decide on roughly how much lift you want, what you plan to do with your lifted truck and how much you would like to spend. Those three things will completely drive which lift you should get.

Sounds like you've already started, but browse around the suspension forums and the various builds. Don't rush into it. There's a ton of info on this site with pictures of every setup out there. You want to be happy with your purchase and avoid spending a ton of money on shit you don't need!

So another quick question. What exactly is the purpose/benefit of a kick out on a slider? If I am guessing right the kick out he where the sliders extends out more towards the rear of the vehicle. What is the benefit of doing that?

So I think I have pretty much decided on Avid Sliders. You can't beat their price and they seem to have great reviews on TW. Just would like the above questioned answered on the kick out. Also, does anyone know if the price on Avid's website includes the install? If not, I much to have them install?

The kickout is personal preference, but provides an easier access to using a hi lift. It's also a nice little handy step to use to reach into the bed of the truck.

I believe the price on Avid does NOT include the weld on. I purchased with @iJonny and met Brandon directly out at his shop in Queen Creek. Fantastic guy that does fantastic work.
