Petty is reported to be sticking with Ford for 2016. I'm pretty sure the deal with Ford is a handshake deal from season to season at this point. I imagine Roush might loan out Beuscher will get the ride if he wins the Xfinity championship. That is, if Roush wants to stick with his current milquetoast stable of drivers. At this point, Beuscher would be a step up from Stenhouse or Bayne; two guys who, five years ago had seemingly bright futures in the sport. Heck, Allgaier might even slide into the #9. The current list of possibilities are:

David Ragan (2 wins over eight seasons)
Chris Beuscher (possible '15 Grand National champ, '12 ARCA champ, 3 wins over two seasons in GN division)
Justin Allgaier (a guy who doesn't tear up equipment, has finished on the lead lap in 1/3 of his CUP races, 3 Grand National wins with Penske, 1 top 10 finish in two seasons in CUP, 08 ARCA champ, 8 ARCA wins)

Ricky Stenhouse (under contract in the #17 through '16. Sponsors on board through '16 too)
Trevor Bayne (under contract in the #6 through '17 with Advocare on board for the same duration)

The unfortunate thing about modern American stock car racing is it's a rich boy's sport. You bring a sponsor and you get a seat. Look at Elliot Sadler, Eric McClure, John Wes Townly, Paul Menard; all boys who've run on daddy's business connection money. These are all likable drivers (from a sponsor's standpoint). They don't say dumb stuff, tear up equipment or get into skirmishes wil the drama queens in the sport (Busch Brothers, Harvick, Keselowksi, Hamlin to a lesser degree).

There's one dark horse for the #9 who is a real long shot because he doesn't have sponsor $ to bring to the table. He does have some talent that could use some track time in decent equipment. While I don't count myself among his fans, Darrell Wallace Jr. would bring some entertainment and flair to the #9. Just like mullets and mustaches in Major League Baseball, NASCAR needs hotshots from Mississippi and Alabama with names like Darrell Wallace Jr. and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

This is all speculation. It's one of my favorite parts of NASCAR; the silly season rumblings in the garage. I get different bits of info from little birdies each week. I stay mum for the most part and like to see what comes out in the press.

I hope petty keeps Almirola. I like him, and he's one of my favorite guys. He's a good man and example for his kids, and he does well with second tier equipment. Look at him today... 5th place.

Almirola has that Waffle House/ Smithfield money behind him. He's a lock in the 43. I think he's an alright guy too. I wish he had more exposure. His personality matches with the King's back in his early heyday. This is why I think Darrell Wallace Jr. would also be a good fit for the team. He's feisty, outspoken and reminds me of the King later on in his heyday. Plus, the King could tout a full stable of biracial* drivers; something that goes a long way in corporate marketing these days.

    * I won't go so far as to say "Minority," seeing as they're both 1/2 white, iirc.

Shut up and take my money. That'd be a perfect team. I like both of em, they have a good work ethic. And don't cause scenes and keep a good head on their shoulders

I think they'd balance each other out. Bubba dives for the gap. He's learned a lot from the Gibbs boys about stuffing it in there and white knuckling it. Almirola worked his way up from sub par equipment to decent equipment. When he first came into CUP, he was splitting a ride with Mark Martin. If you're a young driver, Mark is exactly the kind of guy you want to be your mentor. Mark taught him how to finesse a struggling car and make a 15th-20th place car finish in the top 10. Mark taught him how to consider the big picture and save his equipment. I think Almirola could impart some of his patience on Bubba for better and Bubba could light a competitive fire under Almirola's butt.

Not to mention they could stop by a Georgia waffle house and sign my Almirola diecast... That and maybe with a two man team they could raise more money for better equipment. IMO Almirola is a better driver than all of roush Fenway... And Bubba prob is too, just haven't seen him handle a cup car yet

Anybody catch this insane burnout? I'm not a big fan of burnouts but I actually approve of this one. I look forward to Joey sticking it in Havick's eye for the rest of the season. (skip to 0:51)

Last night I popped in NASCAR '15 for the first time in a while. There was an update called "Victory Edition." I snooped around a little. There are three alt paint scheme packs with most of the 2015 schemes. If you enter your DOB, and you're 21+, you can access all the #2 Miller schemes. AI and online racing are supposed to be better too.

Hard racing. Lap traffic. Aero push. Kenseth stopping like a brick cutting off Joey's lane (as he should). 22 had a HUGE run. Contact. Puts 22 in the wall. Joey tries to arc it into T1. More contact. Spin & win! Cue the weeping & gnashing of teeth in the peanut gallery. Listen to the commentary at the beginning and middle of this clip:
