    I have an option for you guys when it comes to the heated mirrors. I have developed a new blind spot mirror called the EZView mirror, and while doing that decided that a heated option would be nice. So I had my manufacturer cut me a set of custom defrosting films that fit the Tacoma mirrors perfectly. So you have the option of buying my EZView mirrors with defrosting films for $75, or just the defrosting films to put on your stock glass for $35. That's a good bit cheaper than buying the stock heated glass listed in this DIY. The electrical connectors on the defrosting films also line up with the hole in the backing plate, so you don't have to trim anything.

    Has any one found a way to tie the heated mirrors into the defrost switch? I wanna do this modification, but dont really feel like adding more switches to my dashboard.

    I spent some time testing the wiring harness plugs at the back side of the HVAC panel but wasnt able to find a pin that only has voltage when the defrost is turned on.

    Any ideas?

    My other thought was tying into a 12v+ switched source

    I know a couple of the guys on the fj forums have tied it into their rear window defroster, but we don't have that option. Your approach is good though looking for a 12v reading when set to defrost. I would have figured there might be a wire in there that is supplied 12v when set to defrost, specifically a wire hooked up behind the turn knob where you would select defrost.

    Haven't checked it out myself though.

    Thats what I was hoping. The blend door use a variable output voltage signal from the selector knob.

    Another though I had was too tie the timer relay into the fan speed switch. that way, when the fan is turned on, itll run the defrost on the mirrors for 5 minutes then turn off. Only down fall is they'll defrost in the summer....

    True. I've been working with a guy who tied his heated mirrors into his command start for winter and he also has a power switch to disable that feature in summer (air on board switch). Then again you said you wanted to avoid extra switches. You could just disconnect the trigger wire from the relay in summer though, or the power source to the heated mirrors.

    I designed my own relay board to attach directly to the Connector and eliminate having a big external relay that you have to find a place to mount. The relay is automotive rated for 20A. Plan to find a piece of large heat shrink to cover everything up so there is no exposed 12V.
