Lifted '16 Tacomas

16 DBL Cab SB sport goes in for a lift tomorrow, 285's on 17's. Will post up some pictures, maybe even a few with the wheels completely turned too lol. Have no idea how much trimming is going to be needed, but I have no doubt the shop will be going to town with a cutter. Air damn is being pulled off as well.

Fuck I'm still not sure what lift to go with. Really stuck on a stage 3 Icon. But also thinking it may be overkill for what we use the truck for. I go through stages where I convince myself then back peddle and change my mind.

 

might as well get that one instead of getting lower stages and regretting it later.

 

I wasn't blatantly calling him out as a liar, the guy contradicts himself. Telling someone that 34s will fit with no problem is just going to end up with someone buying too big of tires and then having to make more modifications to accommodate them. Maybe modifications they didn't know they were signing up for.

The toytech sema truck has 35s on it. They stacked a 1" body lift on top of a 3" lift and they still had to do a CMC and remove all the front valance crap to get them to clear. I know there is a pretty big difference between 285s and 35s but it still seems likely that if they had to do all that for 35s that 285s will rub somewhere at full articulation. It's cool if the truck is a street queen and you don't have to worry about rubbing rolling around town but that's not what everyone is doing with their trucks and I'd like to know what additional mods, if any, are needed to clear them. Just like when people were starting to fit 285s and 315s when the 2nd gen came out, pics/videos of cycled suspensions were what identified possible problems and helped with the solutions to those problems.

And I don't care if I'm wrong, I'll stay here and admit that I am if that's the case. I come across as a 'protagonsitic' douchebag because misinformation like the above keeps coming up.

 

Do it. Go for the tubular UCA's. Billet's are way overkill for your use.

 

I had decided on tubular for sure. Someone said they had the icon setup. Who was it? Going to price the install at a few dealers first and decide if it's worth it rather than me fooling with it. After my last truck I'm in no hurry to play with suspension.

 

iirc @JerryTaco has an icon stage 5 that he swapped over to his 16.

Correct, I do have Icon Stage 5 that I swapped over from my 2012. If you are decently handy, and have some tools, I say save the money and do the install yourself. Took me about 4 hours, and honestly could have done it faster if I tried. Only real hiccup was the UCA on the passenger side. No way to remove the bolt intact, so you've got to cut the head off and remove it in the opposite direction. Not really a big deal, just make sure you have a replacement bolt on hand, and reinstall it in the opposite direction. Probably a good idea to add some loctite to the threads for added security..

One more thing to note, if you do the Icon progressive add a leaf, there is one factory rivet that you will have to drill and remove from the stock leaf pack. Just plan ahead and account for between 5 and ten minutes per side for that task.

 

With my schedule it will be hard. I work nights. I have just one full day off during the weekend. Which is usually full of chores and errands. Maybe I can find a local Dallas guy here to lend a hand? I'm ok with paying someone for their services though.

 

I'm handy. My truck saw 4 drops before I sold it. it would be nice to not touch it for once though. I just got done building my car.

 

I hadn't done any work on my trucks for a while, so I guess I made up for it recently. Took my 12 back to stock on a Friday night, and lifted the 16 the following day. I will say, it was a pleasure working on a brand new truck. Everything under it was clean and came apart easily. But I can certainly understand and appreciate a busy schedule. Makes doing projects like this a little challenging.

 

Ha, I spent many nights in the garage tearing my motor down then yanking it, then back together. I swore I was done once it was back together. I am also cheap.

Who knows what I'll do. If labor is cheap enough they can do it. If it's insane my wife gets to learn some shit and get dirty for once. After all it's her daily

 

there's other kits you can consider if money is an issue. kits like the Boss, which is what theyre using on the SEMA build or the Toytec Coilovers.

 

I've been eyeballing it. Just need to compare the nitty gritty of it with icon

 

I hear you. So busy this week I haven't even snuck down to take that stupid airdam off the front. This weekend I'm hoping to do that plus add my 30" light bar in the lower grill. Pics to come!

When I lift my 2016 3" am I going to have to replace brake lines? One friend said yes one said no, other said i should regardless to go to steel or something like that, sorry im new to most of this.
